I think I know more people who tried to get QOL and got burned by working long hours anyway than folks who went to a "good" firm and got burned by not getting good experience at least

There are some upsides to being expensive, one of them is that you do less bullshit work

I doubt 190k anytime soon, the country is due for another recession in the next few years.

If you look at most of the economic indicators, you would not be so comfortable.

Weren't the last few raises right before recessions? Could be good for those of us who survive it.

Yes but wasn't base salary increased in 2007 when there was still some growth? Right now it's just slow.

Or it's just faster than it has been in 8 years.

that doesn;t mean it was the best quarter in the last 8 years. they're using some weird wording and comparisons to say this 1st Q rise has been the biggest since 2008. 2014 is still the best year and benchmark since the 2008 recession.

"The survey said revenue rose 5.8 percent in the first three months of the year from the same period a year ago. It was the strongest gain since the first quarter of 2008 — before the economic meltdown of the financial crisis."

Just means a low 2015 Q1 set this up for this statistic. And 2015 was not a good year.

Not that I disagree with you, but why would top candidates choose SF over NYC?

*There are plenty of reasons why they would, but for the purposes of this discussion the only one that matters is COL and SF is arguably more expensive than NYC.
This is firm by firm, but from what I've heard the working conditions are much more humane in SV than in NYC.
Sorry, they're not. Weekends appear to be more respected though.

If you're so smart, why aren't you short some index a massive amount?

Thanks, Warren Buffet. Great to know that, at some point in the future, the stock market will go down.

The post-Great Recession "recovery" is largely smoke and mirrors based on unprecedented Fed monetary stimulus. When it all comes crashing down (I suspect sometime in the first term of the next POTUS), it won't be pretty! :*(

Are 3-5 word normative comments with zero information value considered good argument in our post-Trump world? Will this be the norm when NY moves to 190k?

I brought up NY to 190 when speaking with a partner at a social this week. He shook his head at me and said "don't hold your breath." Wish I had better news to report.

Unless you're at a market leader firm that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. Not everyone will move anyway.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
