Do I really need references? Someone help me rationalize my desire to not do that.

Everyone I would ask falls either into the "haven't talked to you in 2y but can you do me a favor?" category or the "this is the 5th time you've asked me this summer" category. Also I hate talking to people. And asking for things. And I don't want to.buckiguy_sucks wrote:It feels really painful before doing it but people are always just like "sure yeah"usn26 wrote:Do I really need references? Obviously individual results will vary according to geography and GPA, but is there a general rule regarding the typical screener to callback ratio? Is it like the roughly 50% conversion of callback to offer? Only received 10 screeners, and mailing firms has not been super productive, so trying to get a sense of what to anticipate.

Re: Georgetown EIW - 2016
aggregating from data points from last year's thread and random other posts I think its more like bid secondary market with ties ~50%, NY only 30-40% and mostly DC 15-20%

No, there's definitely no screener to CB ratio as it depends entirely on your resume/transcript, how well you do in the room, and what each firm is looking for at that given moment. Some people do 20 screeners and get 18 cb's, and others get 2 callbacks, or no callbacks. Gun hard, gun smart, and don't pat yourself on the back until you have an offer you would accept.Anonymous User wrote:Obviously individual results will vary according to geography and GPA, but is there a general rule regarding the typical screener to callback ratio? Re: Georgetown EIW - 2016
I suspect that might be true for NY firms with large classes, but that's not even close to true in DC. Grades get you in the door. After that it's a combination of resume and how much you can convince people that you will be a better coworker than everyone else, both in terms of your capabilities and your demeanor. Sure, S&C will hire anyone from a decent school with a 3.85, but most firms care about more than exam-writing ability.Anonymous User wrote:Glasseyes wrote:No, there's definitely no screener to CB ratio as it depends entirely on your resume/transcript, how well you do in the room, and what each firm is looking for at that given moment. LOL to actually picking up interviews during open sign up (unless you are IP and/or want to work in Ohio).

Gotta stay persistent. Interviews will pop up there, but they are going to be very sporatic and will go quickly. If you're constantly refreshing you should be able to pick up a few. I wasn't that good about it and got like 4 solid interviews (if I remember correctly, Clifford Chance, Kirkland, Fried Frank, and Morgan Lewis), and i know people who got even more than that.Anonymous User wrote:LOL to actually picking up interviews during open sign up (unless you are IP and/or want to work in Ohio).

Yeah I picked up 3 or 4, two of which led to callbacks, so I wouldn't knock it.BmoreOrLess wrote:Gotta stay persistent. Is there a limit to open sign ups? I managed to score 2 yesterday and 2 today then nothing looks open now.

This. I went from 8 to 18 interviews, IIRC, via open sign up.BmoreOrLess wrote:Gotta stay persistent. Interviews will pop up there, but they are going to be very sporatic and will go quickly. Yea, you're limited to something like 2 in a 24 hour window. So if you've already picked one up in the past 24 hours and you're in a position to be a bit more selective, it is not a great idea to pick up a random firm from Ohio because it blocks you out for a bit.browniestasty wrote:Is there a limit to open sign ups? For anyone interested in corporate, Wilmington had some spots open later in the process last year. I grabbed a couple extra interviews there.

Yea I picked up Skadden DE with no ties whatsoever to DE...might be wasting my time since I'm a transfer student also. Any success stories out there?

Re: Georgetown EIW - 2016
how are open sign ups updated? are they updated whenever they open up or do they update them in batches at particular hours? also, how are open sign up slots determined? does a slot open up when someone cancels?
