Waiting until after graduation at least. Being a student is the ultimate delay tactic.Effingham wrote:I'm trying to put this one off until I'm a full associate, but that's looking less and less likely.RaceJudicata wrote:Down payment, engagement ring. fml.

Update: They just shipped my order. So anyone considering CT may want to give this a try.Mr. Blackacre wrote:Just FYI, they may cancel your order if you use another offer in coordination with the sale. I've tried using regular coupons with the $30 deal in the past and gotten a cancellation a few days letter telling me that the deal specifically mentions it cannot be stacked with any other offer. If you get lucky your order might slip through though.SplitMyPants wrote:For anyone trying to check out CT to see how they fit but don't want to swallow the $10 shipping for a single shirt, use this code:

Question--I'm trying to meet my friends in Vegas for a weekend in June. What time is it acceptable to leave the office for a Friday? Not trying to get my pay docked or anything. Already have to take a 1/2 day for my girlfriend's graduation which I assume will cost me upwards of $300.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I was in a secondary last summer, and we could have left as early as 3pm without anyone batting an eye. Not every weekend, mind you. But if you were traveling one weekend or something, it was okay.
FWIW, for reference since it was a secondary, the firm had a 1900 billable minimum with avg probably between 2100 and 2300. Not that this is necessarily a great proxy for how much a firm would mind a summer leaving early on a friday, but at least it's something.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
Assuming you are at a firm that runs their summer program as more of a social endeavor with some work here and there instead of a working summer, I'd feel ok about a 5ish pm flight out of LGA - timezones will be your friend going west too. If you are doing it with informal notice (which would be my suggestion) I'd just evaluate that Wednesday or Thursday and if it seems like work is in the pipeline, give the associates you are working with a heads up and ask if it will be an inconvenience (they will almost certainly say no go for it). If you aren't sure where your firm falls on the social/work spectrum, I'd book it on Southwest if possible so you have no change fees to deal with if you elect to cancel.mylifeis24 wrote:Question--I'm trying to meet my friends in Vegas for a weekend in June. Just call one of the firm's recruiter/marketing/hr whatever and ask. I left midday Friday to travel a couple times and no one cared and no pay docked. 3 hour lunches and 100% offer rates were also standard, so it's all wildly firm dependent V1-100 and presumably beyond (NYC, 2000+ hours expected and more for counsel (those poor souls)).mylifeis24 wrote:Question--I'm trying to meet my friends in Vegas for a weekend in June. Theory has nice suits, but for the price, sometimes it doesn't fit rightRule104(a) wrote:Ladies, where do you buy your suits?
J.Crew has better fitting suits if you're petite and they will tailor it for you if you buy it w/their JCrew card, but the quality is only okay for the price
Boss also has decent suits, can get really pricey, but if it's on sale, it comes out to about the same as J.Crew and Theory

Well the pathern wasn't offering for me to go with him, just some tix he has no need for, and it was between my 2nd and 3rd exam which only have a 2 day gap. unfortunately for me I need the time to study for my 3rd exam. I'd be able to go before my 2nd exam.BigZuck wrote:Wait, what? Makes sense, I'm probably just seeing things through 3LOL colored glasses. It was a test of willpower. You passed, but you were supposed to acknowledge the pathern's cleverness to get full credit.Anonymous User wrote:Pathern offered me tickets to a sports event but it's during exams so my first response to a pathern is "no" lol

My girlfriend is finishing B School this year, I told her if she wants to get married she needs to buy me a ring. I'm looking forward to having a sugar mama for 3L year.acijku2 wrote:Waiting until after graduation at least. not necessarily. My firm has "Jean Fridays" and considers "deck shoes" business casual.mt2165 wrote:More fashion questions, so chino's are a no go at business casual firms still right? Obv not like the super tapered ones but just in general?

Not too far back someone was talking about only wearing chinos. Which doesn't really tell us whether that's acceptable so much as that some future SA's think it is.mt2165 wrote:More fashion questions, so chino's are a no go at business casual firms still right? I'm on the fence. I have a few pairs of nice dress slacks that would work perfectly, but wool pants suck ass in summer, so I dunno.

Chinos... Have you seen the State Farm commercials? Basically you this summer.
Edit: boomers don't know about fashion anyways so it really doesn't matter.

Probably depends. IME outside of firms, some places 'business casual' means slacks and conservative dress shirts, others means khakis and polos.mt2165 wrote:More fashion questions, so chino's are a no go at business casual firms still right? Obv not like the super tapered ones but just in general?
My firm is business casual, but i got the impression that its closer to the former, so i'm going slacks until i find out otherwise.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I am said someone. At the firm I'm going at, a lot of people were wearing chinos when I came in to do my CB. Not on a Friday. Obviously I'm going to overdress on the first day just to play it safe, like everyone does, but I anticipate that chinos will be totally fine. A lot of these things are very firm specific; at another callback in another DC firm on a Friday everyone was wearing jeans / casual shirts, some even polos. At Jones Day from what I understand the dress code is suits, suits, suits, and more suits.Glasseyes wrote:Not too far back someone was talking about only wearing chinos. I have to say, I also don't understand the bad rep chinos are getting in terms of style. Probably because most guys you see wearing them have straight or relaxed fit pleated pants, which look terribly ugly. A pair of nicely tapered chinos looks totally fine in my opinion. Anyway, YMMV insofar as the firm being ok with it, so certainly don't take my word for it.

I went to a callback and a partner walked into the lobby in a hawaiian shirt, then looked at me in my suit and said: "wouldn't you hate to work at a firm with such a strict dress code?" Then he laughed and walked into a conference room for a meeting. What a boss
