For those of you who've emailed recruiters, what sort of message did you write? Did y'all attach a resume + transcript, or just resume?

Re: HLS EIP 2014
I've written a couple that aren't coming to EIP. Message is basically here's my info, would appreciate the opportunity to interview with you. Always include resume and transcript. Some people say cover letter is debatable but I always include that as well. In it I (briefly) explain my ties to the market and why I'm interested in that firm.Anonymous User wrote:For those of you who've emailed recruiters, what sort of message did you write? Question for any 3Ls or other knowledgeable people around here: I ended up getting Friday slots between 3:30 and 5 for a couple of my top choices. Given the timing, I'm more than a little concerned that the interviewers will be exhausted and ready to leave. Legitimate concern? If so, anything I can do other than hope for the best?

After adding a couple interviews, I have 32 lined up over LA/Boston, mostly LA.Anonymous User wrote:Eerily quiet. How did everyone do with their bids?

I ended up with interviews in three cities, none of them with overlapping firms (i.e. firm X's Boston + TX offices). I've heard employers don't like to hear you're interviewing in more than two markets. Is there any way for employers to find out that I'm interviewing in three cities?

I'm in the same boat. A friend told me that it's fine, but you do need to have a compelling story about each location.Anonymous User wrote:I ended up with interviews in three cities, none of them with overlapping firms (i.e. firm X's Boston + TX offices). Has anyone had interviews back to back? There's a firm I really want to interview with, but it's only open slot is right before another interview. I'm pretty sure it would ruin my chances with the second firm if I'm late to the interview, but I'm not sure how else I could interview with the first firm.

I have around 8 interviews on Monday by a fluke, and I emailed OCS and they said that that is fine. A lot of my interviews are within 20 minutes of each other as well. It'll be rough, but apparently it is doable.EdSaid wrote:Has anyone had interviews back to back? Anyone else have feedback on this? Also, should I be keeping count of time, or are the interviewers themselves pretty on the dot?

Wow, that sounds like a tough Monday. So OCS said having an interview at 3:00 and then another at 3:20 won't be a problem?CicerBRo wrote:I have around 8 interviews on Monday by a fluke, and I emailed OCS and they said that that is fine. Ah, I think we misunderstood each other. OCS said that having an interview END at 3 PM and having another one START at 3:20 won't be a problem. Are you saying that you have an interview START at 3, and another that STARTS at 3:20? If so, that definitely seems like you are cutting it close and def seems like it could be a problem.EdSaid wrote:Wow, that sounds like a tough Monday. Looks like some interview room #s are up on symplicity, but (maybe?) not all. For firms w/ hospitality suites, it just appears to list the room # of the hospitality suite - does this mean we have to show up to the hospitality suite in order to learn our interview room #?

Another question for you guys: I missed a bid I wanted and am going to reach out to the firm's recruiter directly, but I'm wondering what materials I should include. Is there any norm here? In this case, the firm is grade conscious (I'm over the cutoff) so I suspect that transcript might be useful; for my resume, I am less eager to include it because nothing on it appears related to the firm's practices at first glance. ANy thoughts on what to include? TIA.

I would imagine it might be best to approach it as a regular non-OCI firm app - resume, CL, transcript. In the CL/email you could explain your desire for the firms practices.Anonymous User wrote:Another question for you guys: I missed a bid I wanted and am going to reach out to the firm's recruiter directly, but I'm wondering what materials I should include. But I'm pretty sure some of the OCS info said firms you bid on but miss out on still get your application materials.

It's extremely doable. I had 2 days of ten interviews each and it went fine. I was tired at end but not that bad actually.EdSaid wrote:Wow, that sounds like a tough Monday. Re: HLS EIP 2014
Quick question, does anybody know how quickly DC firms usually get back to you for callbacks, and what dates they usually offer?
I have a non-EIP interview to schedule and I'd like to have it be clustered with my other DC callbacks if possible.
Would it make sense to schedule it early in the week after EIP (8/18~) or should I schedule it slightly later?

Conventional wisdom is to schedule callbacks as early as possible. With that on mind I'd schedule it early and if nexessary make more than one trip to DC.Anonymous User wrote:Quick question, does anybody know how quickly DC firms usually get back to you for callbacks, and what dates they usually offer?

DC firms are generally pretty quick. I got all my DC callbacks within 1-3 days of the screener. I think Covington is one that takes a bit longer because they check references and read writing samples.Anonymous User wrote:Quick question, does anybody know how quickly DC firms usually get back to you for callbacks, and what dates they usually offer?

Alright I'll ask it. What's the bathroom situation. Obviously there is one in the lobby but if you've got a couple interviews back to back is it kosher to use the restroom in a hospitality suite? This whole elevators will be backed up thing has me stress out.

Re: HLS EIP 2014
Bump with another logistics question.
If we have back to back interviews and the second has a hospitality suite, realistically how much time would we expect to have for that? I.E. 10:40 wraps up and we head over to 11 immediately, would we have maybe 10 mins in hospitality or less if elevators are slow?

What is the deal with hospitality suites? How long should you stay at one?

Re: HLS EIP 2014
Depends on how socially adept you are. For me, the hospitality suites felt like arriving at a party too early--there were a few people milling around, most people didn't know each other, and after speaking to someone for more than a few minutes you didn't really know what else to say. I deliberately waited until just a few minutes before my interview to arrive at the suites. That gave me enough time to engage briefly in polite conversation while avoiding the awkward silences that often resulted from hanging around in the suites for too long.Anonymous User wrote:What is the deal with hospitality suites? Seriously? What are you waiting for?
