This is great if you're actually able to motivate yourself to work from home. I can't ever get shit done from home. Way too many distractions and other things that I could be doing.
I was that way in law school, but I changed when staying in the office by myself got creepy. And then my 30 minute commute was more like 50 when the train didn't show for 20 minutes.

I never used to look at nutritional facts until I had my cholesterol measured recently. You'd be surprised by just how insanely bad most restaurant food is for you. It's always loaded with saturated fats, sodium, and/or sugar. The goal for restaurants is to make things taste good, not to make them healthy. (Although, I could possibly see living off eating out in a place like LA where everyone is super health conscious.) When you cook, you can easily make stuff that's a shitload healthier than the crap they sell at restaurants. It also helps that you can get nutritional facts on everything that you buy and eat.

Saturated fats/sodium is flame. E.g. http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... ar-on-salt.
The article doesn't even discuss saturated fats. Also, you can seriously find a medical opinion that says pretty much whatever you want it to. After reading a countless number health related articles, I think the key is take everything in moderation. It's extremely difficult to do that when eating out practically every meal.

I get so much done once everyone is out of the office. So much bullshit I find myself dealing with all day, but time seems to freeze once everyone leaves so I can just focus working on the stuff I need to get done. I drive where I'm at (not in DC anymore), so leaving later at night works out pretty well with traffic. DC Metro is kind of kind of a bitch super off-peak hours.

CR. I can't believe people are arguing otherwise. When you eat out, you have no concept of how much butter and oil cooks are using (a lot). These add a shit ton to your meals.

I'm pretty simple when it comes to cooking: Chicken, grains and veggies. Pretty balanced and super easy to make. Because I do it so often (with variations depending on the kinds of veggies and spices and grain I use), it's very quick. Cleanup time is minimal with a dishwasher.

I'm pretty sure I bill more than anyone ITT except probably the thesealocust, so if I can do this, anyone ITT can do this. Anyone else who refuses to do so is just making excuses. It really isn't that hard. Your wallet and your health will thank you.

Man I know two month's salary has always been bullshit especially for people who aren't working blue collar jobs but jeez, $3K out of $160?

Eating out is not to blame. The average French person eats out at least once a day, often twice, and their cuisine is loaded with fats and oils like you wouldn't believe - butter is basically its own food group there, as is cheese - to say nothing of their level of alcohol consumption. And yet, none of the French I know who eat this way are even remotely obese (they are the 128th fattest country, therefore quite low for a developed nation), and they have a fantastic average lifespan.

The "secret," insofar as there is one, is probably just moderation, as XxSpyKEx pointed out. Eating out for tasty meals but eating less, staying active (maybe impossible in biglaw, but IDK yet), and not snacking twice an hour in the American way, or guzzling down 240-calorie sodas a dozen times a day as I've seen many of my fellow law students do.

Obesity has next to nothing to do with having too much oil and salt in your dinner.

Stew has too much saturated fat. Ever tried frozen kale? It's just like eating chips if you use your imagination. Just:

- take a kale bunch

-wash the kale, remove any stems

-cut the kale into bite-sized pieces

-arrange the leaf slices on a baking sheet

-drizzle it lightly with nutritional yeast and braggs liquid aminos

-put it in the freezer for about 12-18 hours

-once it's frozen, there is just one more step: http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbp99 ... o1_500.gif

I gained quite a bit of weight when I lived in France. I'm convinced their genes just somehow make them immune to the ridiculous fatty, buttery, cheesy food they eat.

The French family I stayed with near Marseilles had the strangest diet. One night they'd eat foie gras, escargot with garlic wine and butter, Brie, etc. Then another night they would just have a bowl of raw radishes and cherry tomatoes with olive oil and salt, and a glass of wine. The one constant was that the portions were about half the size of those in the US wherever we went. People just didn't eat as much there from what I saw.
