That sounds like a terrible idea. Its called the patent law interview program for a reason. They are there to hire patent people. You'll either confuse people, have your motives called into question, or annoy people for wasting their time.

I agree with this. However, I guess you could say you are interested in IP, but are also interested in [whatever field] and that their "rotation program" will be beneficial for you to try out that field. (if they have a rotational summer schedule).

If I get screeners at PLIP, I will take them (can't afford not to ITE). After all, IP is still an option but just less of an ideal one.
However, does anyone know if it's possible or recommended for me to express my interest in non-IP work during the interviews? I know some firms go to PLIP with a sole focus on IP and have a separate group for IP hiring but are there some firms that are pretty flexible (if I say I want to do sec reg instead, though still open to IP, will they ding me)? If so, which firms are less specific at PLIP and are open to this?

Thanks
Yes, please express your interest in non-IP work during the interviews. This way, you'll get shot down sooner and leave more room for the rest of us who are seriously interested in the field.

If that's the case, I'm definitely going to be buzzed up while looking.

What's the diff between pre-selects and alts?

Also, how many PS and Alts did everyone get?

My understanding:

Preselects: You have an interview

Alts: If/when a preselect drops out, even on the day of, you are on-deck to grab that slot.

Thx for the info. What's the deal with the number next to a couple of the alternates?

1 preselect
4 alts
Was really hoping for something better...do people still think it makes sense to take the trip from the southeast? Got a much better grade for my second sem; would this justify going there so I can at least drop by some of the suites and hand out an updated resume?

Also second the question about what the little numbers under the alt things mean.

Hm.
Wondering if something was wrong with my resume or apps... or they just wanted more WE or engineering degrees
Got 7 out of 24 bids.
Top 25% at T6, 1 year WE. Hard science but not engineering major.

I mean I understand not getting Irell but missed out on Foley, Alston, Shook Hardy, etc.
Should I be concerned or is my tech bg just not cutting it?

If I had to guess, the number in parenthesis is your place in line.

Did you bid more towards lit or pros?

Mostly lit and I didn't bid any firms that required engineering.
A lot of the firms required bio or chem or the like

Also, this was during finals time so I definitely didn't do much research on GPA cutoffs, firm's strongest practice area, etc.
However, I didn't get selected for a lot of firms that required "top 40% or above"

Edit: Realized my UG GPA was pretty low. Low 3.0

3L here. Top 5-10% at T20. LR. Non-engineering science background.
Out of 36 bids, I got 3 preselects and 1 alt.
