I need to withdraw my DOJ Honors app, but can't seem to find the option on Avue. Any help? I cannot imagine I'd be selected for an interview, but just wanted to do it as a formality.

I only listed EOIR and just got the notification like 2 minutes ago.

Hmm last year it looks like they interviewed 180 for 65 slots for OCIJ, and 16 people for 4 slots for BIA.

Greetings all:

I just finished updating status for component interview selections.

Congratulations to those of you who were selected.

Every year we make additional interview selections after the initial posting. This permits components to ensure that their roster of candidates is complete. I hesitate to guess at a date when this will occur due to the uncertainty associated with a possible government shutdown. Generally speaking, we try to finalize the candidate pool by the time interviews start to allow candidates adequate time to submit their pre-interview materials and get them booked for travel.

As time permits today, I will try to send abbreviated notification messages so those who were selected know which components selected them. I will send a later message with detailed instructions on how to schedule interviews and travel. Right now, I am focusing on simply identifying the selecting components.

In case you are wondering, there is a sliding scale of interview candidates based on the number of positions a component wishes to fill. Components filling a small number of positions typically select more candidates per position than components filling a larger number of positions. Components with one position to be filled generally interview around 8 candidates. Components filling a large number of positions generally interview about 3 candidates per vacancy. The average is 4 to 6 candidates per vacancy. This is not a rigid quota - it's flexible - but these are fairly typical numbers. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Law Review: Editor-in-Chief
Moot Court: champion and best oralist at two national competitions
1L: State AG internship
2L: State appellate court internship
Post-Law School: State appellate court clerkship
Criminal

T10 law school; top 20%; Law Review Board; clinic; state clerkship; federal clerkship; tons of civil rights experience (but not much in voting rights, which I think was all they wanted). Civil Rights Division.

I selected Civil Rights as my top choice (only one opening). I'm not sure if I qualify as someone with "really awesome stats," but I thought I at least had a shot at an interview.

LR executive board position
Note published and writing awards
Internships at multiple federal agencies
Experience in civil rights law

Not sure how helpful this is, but I also was not selected for an interview. T20; top 1%; law review; published note; lots of relevant work experience; federal district and appellate clerkships; was selected for an interview last year but did not receive an offer

Thank you for posting these statistics. I did not receive an interview and am quite depressed about it. As morbid as it sounds, the statistics of others who didn't receive an interview (and had better stats than me) makes me feel *slightly* better.

Sigh. To those of you who were gunning for civil rights division, you guys all seem to have awesome stats and passion. Don't let that deter you from continuing to do good work for others. It was a tough round this year, as the number of openings were mostly cut in half.

If I would've known the stats of some of you and the fact that you wouldn't get interviews, I wouldn't have even applied. You guys had higher stats than I imagined a declined applicant would have. Damn. I need to stop wallowing because you guys actually have a legit reason to be upset.

I wonder how fast my application went in the trash can.

I'm just amazed by those of you who didn't even get an interview but had two fed clerkships and relevant work experience and demonstrated interest. Are there any 3Ls who got selected for interviews at non-immigration components?

Congrats to those selected for interviews. I'd prefer not to post my stats, but I'm shocked that I made it through given that you all seem like outstanding (and superior) candidates. Best of luck going forward.

In the meantime, I still have an outstanding offer from the firm I spent last summer with. Any advice on how to diplomatically request an extension of the decision deadline so I can see how the DOJ interview pans out?
