Re: Cornell AJF 2013 (plus OCI, Boston/DC fairs)
There are still OCI events, and although a lot of those firms aren't NYC big law, around 100K in upstate NY is nothing to sneer at. If you have anything resembling ties to secondary markets, now is the time to start spamming them. Most secondary markets won't start CBs until September. People get good PI late into fall semester/spring semester. The main point is not to get discouraged and not to stop looking. Apply to the various positions that will be spammed via listserve, etc etc.
Also, not all silences are dings. Firms know that they will have far from 100% yield on their offers, so as they start getting dinged by applicants, they will reach out to people that they have on "hold" for CB's. There will still be CB's going out this week.
Also remember that a lot of your classmates will stop giving two shits about grades during 2L/3L. If you select classes smartly and gun strategically, you can pull up your grades enough to be competitive for federal clerkships (even if in flyover districts). That is another way into biglaw if you've missed the 2L/3L AJF boat.
Best of luck, and Don't Panic.

Any other CBs that are not listed in the OP? There are still some firms not in the CB list at all (eg Gibson Dunn).

Seriously, put some thought into cover letters for secondary markets that you have ties to, and you will get results. Especially your hometown.

For 3Ls: After accepting an offer, what does a firm's background check entail? Just criminal records and/or finances? Really just want to know if they'll be asking for references. Not sure what my 1L employer will say.

No, not that serious. I'm just paranoid they won't say all positive things because I made a procedural mistake my last week that definitely irritated at least one attorney.Arbiter213 wrote:wow, did you get fired or something?Anonymous User wrote:For 3Ls: After accepting an offer, what does a firm's background check entail? So what is the protocol for scheduling two different CBs back to back (on different days) as far as asking for reimbursement? Can I ask the firms to split the airfare? That seems awkward.

There's a standard NALP form- one is a host, you submit to them, and they split and bill.Anonymous User wrote:So what is the protocol for scheduling two different CBs back to back (on different days) as far as asking for reimbursement? Can I ask the firms to split the airfare? That seems awkward.
