I'm sure it also helps people with LR, prestigious 1L summer jobs, a Darrow, book awards, etc. A resume can show a lot more than just WE.

18 interviews, 15 DC, 3 NYC.
Edit: 3.5, LR...bid mostly at GPA with a few really high reaches.

Re: Mich OCI 2011
yeah i got 20 interviews. pleasantly surprised as i was expecting between 11-14. if their tinkering around was able to get people more interviews, the wait may have been worth it.

Re: Mich OCI 2011
18 interviews so far - fine with that. But NINE of them are on one day. WTF? Anyone have advice on how to survive this?
Missed out on 3-4 firms that I would really have liked an interview with and will try to pick up outside of the lottery... but with a non-impressive GPA, I shouldn't be surprised that some of my higher picks were oversubscribed.

10 CHI firms and 20 NY firms. I did NOT target highly prestigious firms.Anonymous User wrote:How did you bid that you only ended up with 10?Anonymous User wrote:10! Seriously! Now WTF am I supposed to do?

If your whole bid list consisted of safeties, or firms with lower GPA medians, then they were probably fairly popular and thus got snatched up sooner.Anonymous User wrote:10 CHI firms and 20 NY firms. In addition to hoping you get plucked off the waitlist, you should a) send a cover letter/resume to the firms you want to interview with, telling them you were unable to get an interview through the lottery but would love to make arrangements to meet with them AND b) during EIW, stop by the firm's hospitality suite and talk to the recruiter there. There are also other ways of getting interviews (checking for late cancellations, etc.)
I'm sure you can pick up a few more interviews this way.

Re: Mich OCI 2011
I guess the pressure on OCP worked. Glad to see they released these early.
Got 20 interviews. 14 CA, 6 NY. Got all of my first 17 bids, so I'm pretty happy. Will have 9 interviews on the 25th though.
Funny to see which firms were still available late. Munger Tolles and Cravath at 25/26. Got SullCrom (NY) at 30. Not surprising since all three are major reaches.
Got Weil at 16.

Thank you. Congrats to everyone that received 2x as many interviews as me. I guess that is why it's called a lottery...existenz wrote:If your whole bid list consisted of safeties, or firms with lower GPA medians, then they were probably fairly popular and thus got snatched up sooner.Anonymous User wrote:10 CHI firms and 20 NY firms. E-mailed dewey to try and squeeze into their schedule. They said to show up at their hospitality suite. How long do people usually stay at those?

Re: Mich OCI 2011
How many people are interviewing with different offices than the one you bid on? OCP said some firms did this sort of as a wait list thing. It happened to me twice with Jones Day and Gibson (interviewing with LA when I bid NY).

Got 14 interviews and I'm pretty ok with that. About half below and half above my GPA. Good luck everyone!

Word on the street is people that bid heavily on NY did not do so well this year. However, there seem to be quite a few posters with different results. Puzzling.

Re: Mich OCI 2011
It seems that people who bid all on firms that hire to median didn't do so great, which makes sense. Everyone is going to be bidding on these firms. Once your list gets to the 10-15 range, these firms all fill up. Those who did their top 10 or so with median firms and used the rest of their bids on more selective firms likely got more interviews. That being said, just because you have more interviews doesn't guarantee you'll be more likely to get an offer.Anonymous User wrote:Word on the street is people that bid heavily on NY did not do so well this year.
