top 20% at T20;

Callbacks with 7 firms (9 offices); Rejections at 4; 1 Offer at V50, which I accepted; Withdrawals from remaining 2.

So relieved it's over.

I, for one, would have appreciated such a page in evaluating my decision to attend law school...

This is my update for the Mpls/Chi Market. The one with a comment about v200-- and YES there is such a thing-- it is for smaller firms is all. I have had offers from 3 v100s as well. Just thought v200 was worth mentioning.

School Range: T25
Market: Minneapolis and Chicago
Approx. Class Rank: Top 15 %
Journal: Secondary
Work Experience: Straight Through
IP: Nope
Self-Assessed Interview Capability: 8 or 9/10
Callbacks Received: 8
Offers: 7

Other comments: 1st choice was to work in Minneapolis. Commitment to working there is a big factor once you have the numbers. This Commitment, among my class rank, and activities, served my the best. I don't get nervous while interviewing and prefer to just shoot the sh**. This also served me well.

Free advice: if you have grades above their average, be humble and slightly self-deprecating. If you have grades below their average, be humble but aggressively sell yourself at the same time.

And RELAX.

Because Vault does such a great job at measuring prestige. Weil is *totally* more prestigious than W&C and Covington!

I thought the "baby" and the caps conveyed the sarcasm. Apparently not.

V10's hiring GULC students with 4.4's? I'm skeptical, in light of the data given us by OCS over the last decade. But I guess this person could just be the best interviewer in history with the best WE for corporate law.

Info from OCS on the V10 selectivity over the past decade, median GPA hired for summer positions.

Wachtell - No info because they do not recruit from GULC
Cravath - 3.73
SullCrom - 3.7
Skadden - 3.51 (NY) 3.54 (DC)
DPW - 3.65
Simpson - 3.61
Weil - 3.44 (NY)
W&C - 3.71
Ceary - 3.7 (DC & NY)
Covington - 3.79

And Kirkland DC has a 3.54; maybe NY with a 3.34 (median post curve change; near top third prior)

The above data was prior to the curve increase and the reduction of summer classes. Meaning everyone have a GPA of at least about .15 better than before (theoretically) and firms are more selective (obviously). These were top 10% numbers befo
re the curve change, it used to be around 3.63 for top 10%; that won't even get you top 15% in most sections.
This DC data on GULC is interesting. Many posters often comment on how it's a bad idea to go to UVA or GULC for DC, and that the schools have no advantage over any of the other top 14 schools in the market (unlike the other top 14 schools which are widely held to have an advantage in their home market). However, from this GPA data it seems that DC firms are going either slightly deeper into GULC's class than they do at some of the other non DC top 14, or the same (at least from the charts I've seen of other top 14 schools). The W&C GPA confirms something I guessed a while back. At firms that are that selective, the reality is that they essentially want the same tip top grades across the top 14 excluding HYS. And honestly, from what I saw of what they required for Stanford, the difference is not as great as you might think. The same seems to goes for Covington.

It seems that people are evaluating their interview skills according to the Lake Wobegon standard.

Firms might (and almost certainly do) hire from the same band of grades at GULC. That doesn't mean that competition isn't stiffer there. If firms hire top 10% at two schools but at one more of the top 10% is interested in that firm (relative to number of slots available) then your odds go way down.

School range: MVP
Market(s): LA, NY, Chicago, several flyover markets
Approx. class rank: Somewhere below median.
Law review: Secondary
Work experience: 2 years non-law related
IP background: No
Anything else that might have an impact?: Unique background for a law student, that I think may have actually hurt me in some interviews (I got a lot of "wtf, why law school?" questions during OCI)
Self-assessed interview ability (1-10): 9
Screening Interviews: 20
Mass mails: too many.
Callbacks received: 1
Callbacks accepted: 1
Offers w/vault ranges: Offer is from a midlaw firm in a flyover market. Taking the lower salary but improved QOL and running with it, as I was somewhat biglaw averse from the get-go. I feel lucky, considering I have friends with better grades who have nothing.
