Has anyone heard from any Pacific Northwest firms in the Seattle/Portland area? (Perkins Coie, Davis Wright, etc.)

Orrick "CB" via snail mail (it was very unusual).
I opened the letter thinking it was definitely a rejection.

I have a 3.3X GPA and had interviews with northern California firms in the 3.2X-3.5X band. (Because there weren't really any less-selective firms around.) I think I have a good resume and interview reasonably well. So far, 25% ding rate all over the spectrum with no CBs. If the rest of the T16 outside of HYS aren't having this kind of trouble, I am going to be ...
... ineffectually angry.

What firms are in the 3.2-3.5 band? I'm at another T14 and so far no CBs too.Anonymous User wrote:I have a 3.3X GPA and had interviews with northern California firms in the 3.2X-3.5X band. As irrelevant as these selectivity estimates might be ITE, OCS has asked us to keep them under wraps, and I'd like to respect that. (Otherwise, I would be more than happy to share this info with you.) Bottom line is: I am not talking about Munger Tolles.Anonymous User wrote:What firms are in the 3.2-3.5 band? "No news is good news" and all that, but until CBs start trickling in to complement the dings, I'm not feeling great.

Re: Michigan 2010 OCI Callbacks
Anyone medianish want to share an overview of their results so far?
I've heard that GPA doesn't totally determine results, but it sounds like it has some kind of influence...all my friends with super-high GPAs are swimming in dinner invites and callbacks. My slightly optimistic working theory is that firms are working through the super-qualified types now, and based on how many offers to that group get accepted, they'll decide how far down to go for the next round.

Re: Michigan 2010 OCI Callbacks
I agree with personality playing a larger role. As a transfer, I expected less than spectacular results. However, I'm 8-3 in cb v. rejections. I think I have a good personality and the results speak for themselves. Also, people that applied to all DC/NY/CHI firms probably screwed themselves -- this is not the economy to make a bid for your favorite place.Anonymous User wrote:(I'm the poster who got the Mayer Brown and Cadwalader earlier)-- I think personality really is playing a much larger role than my GPA in getting callbacks.
As someone mentioned in another thread, firms are looking for people who fit and not just GPAs.

I was playing it fairly conservative and wanted to maximize my chances at getting callbacks.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, but a 3.5 is still at least top 20%, if not higher...just wondering why you bid on certain firms in the first place.Anonymous User wrote:(I'm the poster who got the Mayer Brown and Cadwalader earlier)-- I think personality really is playing a much larger role than my GPA in getting callbacks. I've had a fairly inconsistent run in law school, but I've gotten callbacks at firms my GPA would have no business getting me a callback at (Davis Polk, in particular). I think that this year is definitely better than last year was, and so personality is playing a role that it didn't have the chance to earlier this year.

Re: Michigan 2010 OCI Callbacks
Putting it bluntly, with a 3.5 you're probably going to end up getting an offer at a higher ranked firm and end up rejecting lower ranked callbacks/offers. However, this strategy screws your classmates over because interviewers only callback a certain few from each batch and most don't go back to re-callback people. But it is what it is, since it's every person for him or herself.Anonymous User wrote:I was playing it fairly conservative and wanted to maximize my chances at getting callbacks.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, but a 3.5 is still at least top 20%, if not higher...just wondering why you bid on certain firms in the first place.Anonymous User wrote:(I'm the poster who got the Mayer Brown and Cadwalader earlier)-- I think personality really is playing a much larger role than my GPA in getting callbacks.
