Re: Columbia EIP 2014
Has anyone done a second look yet? I have my first one this week and still don't feel like I have a good idea of what I should be asking. I plan on asking associates about face-time requirement, size of teams they've been working on, how early they got to do depositions, etc. (interested in lit); anything else we should be asking here?

If it's a post-recession junior I asked what firms they looked at and what their decision came down to. It was rarely the same firms as me but sometimes it was instructiveAnonymous User wrote:Has anyone done a second look yet? If its a slightly older associate I'll ask what they see themselves doing in the next couple years, i.e., will they stay for partner track, what are relationships like with USAO, ect.

Good idea. Did anyone name drop the other firms they were considering? Like, with a partner: "I'm looking at firms X Y and Z. What do you think differentiates your firm from these others?" Or is that a too antagonistic?Anonymous User wrote:If it's a post-recession junior I asked what firms they looked at and what their decision came down to. I would say too antagonistic, because you don't want to put people on the spot where they have to talk bad about other firms (though some will just offer this unsolicited lol). I ask about assignment systems, maybe firm finances (if they recently went through a merger or if there is reason to be concerned), not being in a headquarters office, the kind of work they do, etc.Anonymous User wrote:Good idea. Ya I've heard of this one. Interviewed on Monday got offer wed. But the recruiter told me specifically that I shouldn't be expecting a deduction that week so idk.Anonymous User wrote:A friend of mine interviewed with them the week of the 18th and got an offer two days later.Anonymous User wrote:At least not for me. I'm thinking that for people interviewed during the week of 8/18-8/22, we are probably gonna come up during their meeting tomorrow, if the hiring committee is meeting then. It makes sense that there's no word today since it's the day after the long weekend. If they have a decision, they should have told us by last Friday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.Anonymous User wrote:Still nothing from Mayer Brown NY?

Aug 19th. I've heard one person getting an offer but others in my week haven't heard yet. The recruiter told me I shouldn't expect any decision that week, give it at least one or two.Anonymous User wrote:When was your callback with them?

I got an offer from Bryan Cave about 3 days after my callback. This was over a week and a half ago and I already turned it down to hopefully open up the space to another CLS student. Good luck!Anonymous User wrote:Anyone hear anything post cb from Bryan Cave? Or know anything?

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
just got my first offer after having a CB almost a month ago and not getting offers from any of my other three CBs. Started to mass mail and panic. Feels great to have one as I was pretty feeling pretty blue and dejected.
To those who were also in my boat, keep being positive and keep your head up. There are offers still to be had!

Congrats! This is so awesome to hear. It's easy to forget just how long this process is, since CLS is one of the first schools to start the hiring process. People get offers in late September and October, so stay positive everyone and hopefully it all works out!Anonymous User wrote:just got my first offer after having a CB almost a month ago and not getting offers from any of my other three CBs. Re: Columbia EIP 2014
So, pretty much struck out at EIP. 4 CBs + 4 Rejections. I understand the consensus on this site is to mass mail, but I feel like I need some time to reflect and figure out a more targeted approach. I have ties to a secondary market too which is keeping me from panicking.
Is now the time to talk to career services? What if I didn't like the first advisor i was assigned?
Secondly, for you gunners out there-- If I'm interested in clerking, are there any prestigious non-Biglaw summer options to consider?

Start mass mailing/meet and mailing now. Talk to OCS.
Do you have the grades to clerk? There are people who clerk who don't do Biglaw, but it is very competitive.
