Kind of a half-assed raise from DPW. They could easily go further. I perceive this as them trying to hijack the narrative without really having to shell out for it. I'm not complaining, though.

Odds that Cravath will come slightly over new DPW scale to flex and reclaim “compensation leader” status?

205 is just sitting there for a firm to use to set the market.

No, Kirkland will shock the legal world by declining to match market, voluntarily giving up its spot in the vault rankings and becoming an accountancy firm.

Confused about DPW’s 202.5. Is that for stubs starting this fall?

Re: NY to 200k?!
It's hilarious/strange that DPW didn't just claim 205k. Their 202.5k presumably only applies to stub years during their actual stub year, right? And then the stubs get upped to 205k after their first few months? It's almost begging to be one-upped. I almost feel like I must be misinterpreting it.AureliusCapital wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:19 am205 is just sitting there for a firm to use to set the market.

Stub and first year. Agree the 2500 re-raise is weird...like why even do it. I guess they did't want to raise very class BUT first years.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:25 amConfused about DPW’s 202.5. Is that for stubs starting this fall?
EDIT was wrong nvm. Why bother differentiating stub year???

I thought this question was so insane that I considered interpreting it as "Will Kirkland match, or will they raise?".Ultramar vistas wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:25 amNo, Kirkland will shock the legal world by declining to match market, voluntarily giving up its spot in the vault rankings and becoming an accountancy firm.

Can the law firms put their best offer on the table instead of raising against one another lol

Re: NY to 200k?!
Just as a break down for the DPW Scale, because it was confusing me:
Stub Year = +$12.5k
1-2nd Year = +$15k
3-4th Year = +$20k
5th year up = +$25k
(I think, someone may want to check the math. This is why the bump for 2017 seems weirdly low compared to the classes around it.)
My theory on the stub year differentiation is: you can implement that now even though the monetary benefit is minimal to establish that stub years are paid less, and then let the gulf grow over the next series of raises over the next decade and increase the savings (which I think makes sense, I dunno).

Re: NY to 200k?!
Yes, that's a plausible explanation, but it still looks cheap. If the stubs work the last 3 months then we're literally only talking about saving $625/stub. It just seems odd that DPW would make waves for that small amount of cash.ConfusedNYer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:35 amMy theory on the stub year differentiation is: you can implement that now even though the monetary benefit is minimal to establish that stub years are paid less, and then let the gulf grow over the next series of raises over the next decade and increase the savings (which I think makes sense, I dunno).

So just to get this straight, if someone asks me what my starting salary is, I have to say 202.5k? lol. Hope Cravath/S&C raises it to at least 205k, soon.

Very unsatisfied with that $5k raise for the class of 2017. Firms are hemorrhaging fourth years just as much as fifth years.

It's one thing to talk about salary amongst co-workers to make sure you're all being compensated fairly, it's another to just talk about your salary to flex on people (which is the only real reason I can think of to talk about your biglaw salary unless you're at like Jones Day or talking to a recruiter).Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:52 amGet that shit outta here. Forreals. Davis Polk giving a giant middle finger to the fourth years that they’re going to start billing out as fifth years July 1.TigerIsBack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 11:12 amPoor class of 2017 only getting a $5k bump from Milbank while the surrounding classes of 2018 and 2016 get $10k above Milbank.
