Sorry for the confusion guys. We don't have a $25 lunch budget here in LA. I read the email wrong. It's actually $20.

I bet your firm's NY office budget is like $60, which is dumb because LA dining can be just as expensive.

Anon because I think we're at the same firm. Which, if it is the case, is bullshit because our PPP is north of $3M and all of our financial metrics rose by ~10% this past year. What's the point of AmLaw calling us one of the Super Rich firms if we have a TTT lunch budget in LA?

Do people drink at these lunches? Have I been watching too much Mad Men? How else do you get to $60/pp...

Ran out of options. Can only do 10. I was gonna combine the CA cities too and add in "midwest," but I figured there'd be more in CA and most of the people choosing TX would be Houston.

Totally fair. Didn't know about the ceiling.

It would be easy enough to hit $60 for lunch at some of the nicer NY restaurants, sadly.

You can drink although most don't. And yea prix fixe menus at the places I go get you to 65 pretty easily.

Yep. When the lunch entrees are in the $20-30 range and everyone gets an appetizer and dessert, it's super easy to go over (at least at nice NYC restaurants). And no one would have judged you if you ordered a drink either, it's all about how much work you have to do afterwards.

Going to a business casual firm. Is TCR to wear a suit with tie on first day? Sorry if this has been asked a million times.

Is that just a NYC thing? Ordering alcohol at a summer lunch feels weird to me.

I'm overly conservative about this stuff though. If none of the partners or associates at lunch orders a dessert, I'm not ordering one either. Don't wanna be that guy eating a dessert alone while attorneys are just sitting there.

I'm like this with family even
I never let manners/awkwardness get in the way of dessert. Never. If you are, however, worried about eating dessert alone, have it come with your meal.

I've never seen anyone do this in NYC. Have you ever done this? Most tables don't have enough room for everything that's there already. Why bring an extra plate to make it more crowded.

Just don't get dessert. It's crazy making that people who obsess about what to wear the first day would be blasé about social faux pas.

I don't know about anyone else, but the allure of free stuff is very strong.

Thank for clarifying. I thought the SAs were too literal but it turns out I am as well.

Dessert was the norm at my firm. Just get it if you want it, and offer to share if you feel weird.

Yes, joking... Speaking of what to wear on the first day, can I wear tan shoes if my watch strap is black? If it matters, I think my nails will have a clear coat. Also, my bag will be reddish.

depends, are you socks black or dark grey? What color is the lining of the bag?
Shoot. I didn't even think about how the socks would play. I was going with navy blue. I might have to scrap the whole project and start over. Where do I begin?
