When NY went to 160, what was it coming from?
Just asking because I saw some firms moved non-NYC folks to 145, but what was that jump? 135 to 145?

Wow...there were a lot of CovingTTTons on the 160k list, at least initially.

So why haven't these firms learned? According to the Google Doc, WilmerHale raised NY to 160k and Boston/DC to 145k in 1/07 and then brought them up to 160k in 5/07. Why are they fighting the tide? For 4 months savings in two of their offices?

It was actually a mix - prior to 2007 there wasn't a real standard pay across all firms. But for the big DC firms I think it was 135K. Pre-2007 the NY firms didn't have as big a presence in DC as they do now - Hogan & Hartson, Wilmer (becoming WilmerHale in, what, '06?), and Covington really controlled the pay scale in DC.FoxyBoi wrote:When NY went to 160, what was it coming from?

The DC firms I think really believed they could limit the tide. Remember, the 2007 raise came pretty quickly on the heels of a previous raise to 145K - I think firms thought they could fight this for a long while because it was plausible the second wave of salaries wouldn't take.Anonymous User wrote:So why haven't these firms learned? No surprise Foley and Lardner hasn't made much noise, doesn't look like they moved with the masses during 2007. Can't imagine there will be much if anything from Foley for some time.

Good stuff. Thanks for aggregating.Capitol_Idea wrote:NY to 160 Timeline as google doc:

If you look at the trending, it sort of looks like it's breaking out about the same way it was last time - 4 days in, 26 firms had made moves in 2007. 2016, we're 4 days in and 31 firms have made moves. A lot of that probably just relates to how hard it is to get a partnership vote within a few days. Hopefully the pattern doesn't otherwise follow 2007 though - it'd suck if this took months to play out.

This sheet now goes up to October 2007. I can't do any more ATL pay raise announcements; it's killing me.Capitol_Idea wrote:NY to 160 Timeline as google doc:

Didn't Clifford Chance match for UK? This article didn't do them any favors: http://www.legalcheek.com/2016/06/us-ou ... ng-124000/

Brown Rudnick sort-of matches in NY only. http://abovethelaw.com/2016/06/firm-ann ... der-folks/

Consdidering adding a laggard/get your act together list. Thoughts? Would it make the opening post too long? What criteria would we use to decide who goes on there?

Re: Cravath's Spawn - the Wave of Copycats - RUNNING TALLY
I'm at a MC firm (NY office) and am curious how the UK will react to NY salaries suddenly appearing overseas. It kinda seems like Latham etc. don't understand how price wars work - prevailing NQ salaries are under 100k (http://www.rollonfriday.com/InsideInfo/ ... fault.aspx), jumping to 124 seems kind've ridiculous. I feel like I'm watching Peter Griffin at an auction.unlicensedpotato wrote:Didn't Clifford Chance match for UK? Like it. Check out the other thread: perhaps Am Law PPP or RPL top 50/75 from the most recent Am Law 100.trbrny wrote:Consdidering adding a laggard/get your act together list. Thoughts? Would it make the opening post too long? What criteria would we use to decide who goes on there?

Agreed. If your firm is doing great in PPP and hasn't raised, well, I guess we all know how your firm keeps PPP so high.Anonymous User wrote:Like it.
