Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
Non Iron from Brooks Brothers and Charles Tyrwhitt breathe the exact same as their regular shirts as far as I can tell. They're just cotton treated with magical chemicals, not polyester blends (unless you get a Brookscool shirt or something weird).
FWIW, BB non-iron comes out less wrinkly than C; the BB shirts require a trip through the dryer, which makes them perfectly crisp. CT really shouldn't be dried unless you're trying to shrink the collar, and the non-iron effect comes from air drying. They're not terrible, and some fabric choices are less wrinkly than others, but my CT shirts would all benefit from a quick pass with the iron. IME, BB shirts are slightly higher quality than CT, though I prefer the sizing and styling of CT; in the end it's a wash.

For anyone trying to check out CT to see how they fit but don't want to swallow the $10 shipping for a single shirt, use this code:
RNW10FS
Free shipping and 10% off for first time buyers. Just copped a shirt for $31 to see how I like it.

Just FYI, they may cancel your order if you use another offer in coordination with the sale. I've tried using regular coupons with the $30 deal in the past and gotten a cancellation a few days letter telling me that the deal specifically mentions it cannot be stacked with any other offer. If you get lucky your order might slip through though.SplitMyPants wrote:For anyone trying to check out CT to see how they fit but don't want to swallow the $10 shipping for a single shirt, use this code:

Any females on this thread? Is it just me or is it so much harder to shop for business casual as a female? Is it appropriate to wear red? Or pink? You know something other than the usual white, black, blue, and grey?

I have some skirt suit/blouse combos, but dresses are so easy and flattering. I'll probably end up just wearing a dress most days--at least guys don't get that.Londonbear wrote:Any females on this thread? True, but we have more permutations, so I still don't envy you.FluffMonster wrote:I have some skirt suit/blouse combos, but dresses are so easy and flattering. Not female but am friends with several who wear colors far more festive than the white, black, blue and gray. It's going to be a bit firm dependent I'm sure though. I'd give the same advice as to the males freaking out about suits or not and say do conservative colors the first day or week and see what female associates wear, but whatever color so long as appropriately modest is probably fine.Londonbear wrote:Any females on this thread? As a female SA i gradually realized one-piece dress is hard to stay. Just by the nature of the dress itself, most of them tend to be flattering/ hug the body very well- which resembles either a posh Beckham outfit, or some old school secretary look. So I stay with skirt suits and keeps the blazer on. -I believe pulling on a LBD and a blazer is really too easy.

I find it really hard to find a good blazer. They get a little boxy. Any recommendations on where to get a good blazer? I tend to prefer sweaters and then I just end up looking like a secretary or not professional enough.Anonymous User wrote:As a female SA i gradually realized one-piece dress is hard to stay. Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I prefer two-button or three-button blazer, but that's only me- one-button blazer just oozes bad cutting for me, even for your four hundred bucks theory- those are "fashion" sense blazers to some extent. Not the kind of well-cut professional suiting that allow elbow movement. Don't get me started on suits with peplum, ziper, over-long or over-short.
I do think it takes extra bucks to get super-professional standard suiting for women. It's a phuck-up for the fashion industry. I often times just get the whole suiting- if you are smaller, Italian designer brands tend to fit way better than Boss, Max Mara.

I need to pick up a gray suit at some point (I have a black one and a navy pinstriped one already). I'm kind of excited for doing more work clothes shopping!
For color - I have a lot of colored Express Portofinos (red, blue, purple, etc.) and I'm definitely planning to pair them with black/gray skirts this summer.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I don't know if there's consensus, but my take: J. Crew is fine but generally way overpriced for the quality. I do like the way a lot of it fits, though some of their suits are absurdly skinny fitting, which may not be the most professional look. All that said, I don't get super hung up on the quality part of the equation (meaning the richness of the fabric, resilience of the stitching, etc) so long as it looks good and won't fall apart in 6 months. I've got some Bonobos dress pants that were definitely overpriced for the quality of the fabric (compared to, say, Brooks Brothers or the better lines of Ralph Lauren), but they fit like a dream so who cares. J. Crew is probably on par with the Bonobos stuff.mt2165 wrote:Im a plebe so forgive me, whats the consensus on J. Crew dress shirts/pants

I think their dress pants are great, but I've never liked their dress shirts. The shirts seem to always be a bit too trendy (e.g., thin collars) and shirts that aren't exact sizes never fit me. I do find their slim pants to be perfect and not too slim though (bro with big legs here).mt2165 wrote:Im a plebe so forgive me, whats the consensus on J. Crew dress shirts/pants
Oh and agree with the above: J Crew is overpriced at sticker, but often can be had for reasonable prices if you're willing to wait (probably not helpful for SA).

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have pretty mediocre business casual wear as of right now, so trying to find the happy medium between price/quality. Maybe ill go brooks brosGlasseyes wrote:I don't know if there's consensus, but my take: J. Crew is fine but generally way overpriced for the quality. Banana Republic isn't bad if you can snag em at 40% off, which happens online or in store probably every other week. And for downright cheap prices on reasonably ok stuff, look at Lands End. Constant sales to boot.mt2165 wrote:Thanks for the replies, guys. I have pretty mediocre business casual wear as of right now, so trying to find the happy medium between price/quality. Yea Banana Republic is probably your best bet, although definitely look through Jcrew's sale. BB's pants are pretty expensive and not all that much better, but their shirts are my go to tho.

This is pretty spot-on. Their bowery cotton twill pants are really good. Super comfortable and looks a little more dressy than the typical pair of khakis and is good to rotate with wool slacks. I would still only buy them on sale though.BmoreOrLess wrote:I think their dress pants are great, but I've never liked their dress shirts. Their dress shirts suck. The not non-iron ones crease very easily, and they all have ugly small collars. The sleeves on one of mine is inexplicably long as well (bought online thinking the same size i always wear from jcrew would fit).
