Congrats!Gray wrote:So I was the anon a few pages back with a gov job - I didn't want to be obnoxious about it before Dec 1, but I just got my internship welcome package and I'm too excited about it to keep my mouth shut. It has stuff like "wear a suit on your first day" and "send us a third person bio" so it suddenly feels real. No biglaw $$ or preftige obviously, but I'm really looking forward to it!!

How DARE you circumvent the almighty NALP. Better start praying to the C&F gods because you've already been reported.Gray wrote:So I was the anon a few pages back with a gov job - I didn't want to be obnoxious about it before Dec 1, but I just got my internship welcome package and I'm too excited about it to keep my mouth shut. Yeah this is what I've been getting back since the 1st. Tons of, "Thanks for the interest. Send grades when you have them."Anonymous User wrote:Got an offer to meet at a pretty large firm (in a secondary market) over break.
Few "come back with grades", and yes a couple dings. All of my apps have been to secondary markets/non-diversity. Think I'm done blasting until after exams - did about 15-20 perhaps who knows.

I sent out 10-15 to a secondary market on 12/1 and received one reply saying "No 1Ls this year, but please apply next year" and another asking for a writing sample.
No actual dings or grade requests; not sure what to make of it.

Congratulations, it's a good start. Please define "pretty large firm in a secondary market". Is it 50 people large, 100 people large?Anonymous User wrote:Got an offer to meet at a pretty large firm (in a secondary market) over break.

Pro tip: be sure to mass mail firms in your home market so you can cop some sweet invites to receptions over break, complete with free food and booze.

If directions say: Submit your materials to Recruiting Assistant .....
In this case, whom do you address the cover letter to? Some firms have info on recruiting managers for each office, but some don't.
Do you address the cover letter to the Recruiting Manager of the main office, but it is not in the market I am interested in?
Do you address it to the Managing Shareholder of the office you are interested in (seems like over reach)? or Do you address it to the Recruiting Assistant?

Don't want to abuse anon (but OP from above). I always did it to the recruiting manager/HR people. Also, If I applied to an office and the HR people were located at the "main" office, I addressed it to the HR people in the main office. They will forward it for you if necessary.
Lots of big corps are similar to this where they will have HR only in main office recruiting for their satellites. Addressing a CL and Resume to the Managing Shareholder IMO seems like an overreach unless they specifically tell you to do so. If that's where they want it directed, the HR person will send it for you. IMO sending directly to the top is like the lottery. You have a chance of it getting ignored (because the managing partner has a lot to do), or you somehow appease them/it turns out very well. Being risk-averse I'd stick with the HR person/recruiter who solely is there to recruit candidates and not be an attorney.
If you truly have no idea where to send it - the worst thing that could happen is they can tell you no/ding you. Just send it to who you think would be appropriate.

Thanks for your reply. I just want to make it clear, I am going to send all materials to the Recruiting Coordinator, as the application instructs.
One of the requested items is Cover Letter, this is where I am unsure (HR of the main office or managing partner of the market I am interested in), though whoever I address the Cover Letter to, it will be emaied to the Recruiting Coordinator.

Really good news!!! Congrats!!!Anonymous User wrote:Good news: I got three 1L summer associate interview requests already! I mass-mailed 65 firms on December 1, and three of them already called or e-mailed me inviting me for a phone interview. One is a V20 (DC office), another is a V21-50 (LA office), and the third is a mid-size firm in the Midwest. Four other firms indicated interest, but said they wanted to see my first-semester grades first.
Thank you for sharing.
Are you a diverse applicant?

No, I'm not diverse (straight white male), but I have a scientific background and significant work experience in business and tech startups. I applied to firms asking to do IP, tech transactions, or corporate (or a combo of those).Law1491 wrote:Really good news!!! Congrats!!!

I'm in the middle of the T14 (one of Columbia, Chicago, NYU, Penn, UCB, Michigan, Virginia).Hikkomorist wrote:Mind sharing your law school's approximate ranking?
I did them all by hand, but they are all nearly identical, with only two or three sentences in each cover letter that were distinctive.buckiguy_sucks wrote:hot damn dude get shit done
