Plenty of SAs leave at 5 on a regular basis.brotherdarkness wrote:Slow day today. What time do you guys leave if you don't have anything to do? Walking out the door at 5 seems weird.

Got assignment at 3 due at 11A tomorrow. Went home when it started to get dark to work remotely. Remote access software doesn't work. Having minor panic attack.

Geez, I really want to know where you work now.brotherdarkness wrote:I meant it as a joke. However, if it's a big research assignment and I wasn't confident I could finish it within the confines of the morning hours, I'd probably go back to the office.Valley of the Deer wrote:Actual advice or a joke?brotherdarkness wrote:It's not even 10pm, you've got time. ETA: Many of the junior associates at my firm told me that they pulled quite a few all-nighters (or were there until 5am) when they were summers, so my views are a bit skewed.

Corp or lit?brotherdarkness wrote:I'll note that, thus far, I haven't been required to stay late. I was helping on a matter the other night and it was clear that the senior associate I was working with would be there all night. I was sent home by 8pm. I don't think they want to make us grind over the summer, but if shit comes up we're expected to be part of the team.jbagelboy wrote:

(sorry if you've said this in a different thread--don't remember)

These stories all seem insanely intense compared to my experience. I think it just varies firm by firm.chem wrote:My SA seems to easy compared to these stories, which is making me anxious

Even within firms, it seems to vary by partner. My office mate had left right at 5 every day so far, so.Nelson wrote:These stories all seem insanely intense compared to my experience. Re: Summer Associates 2014: Thoughts, Anxieties, Experiences...
Hard to believe a year has passed since I was an SA. I recall that Last Memorial Day weekend the office was a ghost town by noon Friday, ditto this year too.
As far as when to leave, they did what they could to get us SAs out by 6PM. The exception was if an SA was assigned to a case and was working with a partner (that started around the 4th week). I also recall that the first week or two was light but then it picked up and never ended. We were all offered during the 10th week and they gave us the option to stay on for extra weeks. At first I thought I was taking advantage of the situation but it turns out we were so busy that I worked right up until classes started. The formal written compensation packaged arrived about 6 weeks later. Since I didn’t have to relocate there was no stipend, but they paid for Barbri and exam fees. That’s my SA experience.

Survived week one. I think I consume approximately 12,000 calories per day. This whole firm 15 thing is not cool.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
