Re: No Offers Yet- All Aboard the USS Worried
Alright, after today, I'm on the damn boat. T20, top 20%, secondary journal . . . 17 screeners, 6 callbacks. I've done 4 so far, been rejected by one and am still waiting (2+ weeks later) on the other three. I have two more callbacks in the next week. Problematically, though, most of the firms have summer classes below five.
Color me concerned.

I'm guessing the overlap between this thread and the midwest OCI thread is large.

Does everyone get the whole "we try to get back to all of our candidates within two weeks" thing? Is there anything I should do between now and then (callbacks were both on Monday) besides pray?

I'd rather not identify them by name, but it's a V50 SV office with a fairly large summer class and two V70 DC offices with summer classes <5.Anonymous User wrote:Which firms are you waiting to hear from after 2weeks?Anonymous User wrote:Alright, after today, I'm on the damn boat. I don't feel like studying since I don't have a job lined up yet.

Right? This is really detrimentally affecting my academics. Which isn't particularly good for my long term prospects I suppose.Anonymous User wrote:I don't feel like studying since I don't have a job lined up yet.

Yup. Moving to the South from the North does not make me a southerner and therefore all the boutique/midlaw corp and commercial/business lit firms want nothing to do with me. FML. I guess going to law school in the South and working here during the summer just isnt enough. Oh, and class sizes at the biglaw firms are around 5...with 30 CBs to fill those spots.Anonymous User wrote:Southerners I expect, tooAnonymous User wrote:I'm guessing the overlap between this thread and the midwest OCI thread is large.
T1 Southern school; top 25%; law review; 4 years good work experience; 1 CB.

Yeah bro, the South is extremely parochial. And depending on the Southern school and market, top quarter may not cut it for a lot of firms. UGA and ATL for example. Or UF and FL.

If it makes anyone feel better, I am top 3% at a T1 CA school and getting nothing.

Rejected from my awkward callback firm. Did not fit in at all. But I wrangled another callback so it evens somewhat. So waiting to hear from 6/7 CBs completed with 2 more callbacks coming up. All below the Mason Dixon.

hey, in what way was the callback awkward and firm not a fit for you?Anonymous User wrote:Rejected from my awkward callback firm. Did not fit in at all. They were all ridiculous nerds and we did not click on a personal level. I would have been surprised if I had actually received the offer.najumobi wrote:hey, in what way was the callback awkward and firm not a fit for you?Anonymous User wrote:Rejected from my awkward callback firm. Yep, first time I'm worried. Rejected from all my previous CBs as of today and all my future CBs have offers outstanding to students at my school. Not sure how to take this... Besides horribly.

ah gotcha...thanks for elaborating...i always feel like "not fitting" can mean so many different things.Anonymous User wrote:They were all ridiculous nerds and we did not click on a personal level. good luck with the rest of your callbacks. Im a southerner as well (NC) and I think the south is a great region to live and work in.

Gonna join this thread. Southern T2, Top 20, LR.
18 screeners (some OCI, some job fairs even though I'm not a URM), 5 CBs done (rejected from one, waiting on four), 2 CBs to go.

how long did you typically have to wait after your screener before you got a callback invite?Anonymous User wrote:Gonna join this thread. Southern T2, Top 20, LR.

It really depends on the firm -- some will call back the next day, some will call back the next week -- but in general, if you haven't heard back in 1 week, you're in trouble.najumobi wrote:how long did you typically have to wait after your screener before you got a callback invite?Anonymous User wrote:Gonna join this thread. Are you from the South? Similar rank and LR at a T1 Southern school, but not nearly as many CBs. The non-biglaw firms really dont like Northerners....and especially northern minorities.Anonymous User wrote:Gonna join this thread. Southern T2, Top 20, LR.

Looks like I have to start using my connections back in my home city up north. Pretty disappointed because I really wanted to stay down here.

Protip: one, but only one, of these two things is not necessary right now. Choose wisely.Anonymous User wrote:How am I supposed to study for class and try to hustle a job? Seriously.

try studying for class, going to your internship, writing your note, completing your journal assignments, doing moot court stuff AND trying to hustle for a job. I am about to jump.stratocophic wrote:Protip: one, but only one, of these two things is not necessary right now.
