i know it's still early and there may/will be movement in the invitations, but for those listed as alternates (with a number in the parentheses), does that presumably mean that you are the #X alternate for that employer?

I'm (1) for three firms and (2) for another. Either I'm really lucky ( or really unluckly I guess). Though maybe it doesn't actually mean anything.ajmax8 wrote:sweet, I'm the first alternate haha (but the 40th alternate for another employer)

I had significant improvements in academic record from fall to spring. There's no practical way to update them of this prior to showing up at the interview, correct?

i got off like 3 or 4 of mine last year....one might have been morning of. even scored a CB and offer with one who had me as an alternate. if u think about it, a lot of people who only have 1 or 2 end up canceling.Anonymous User wrote:I'm (1) for three firms and (2) for another. is it correct that alternate(x) means you are the "x"th alternate as far as you could tell?dood wrote:i got off like 3 or 4 of mine last year....one might have been morning of. even scored a CB and offer with one who had me as an alternate. if u think about it, a lot of people who only have 1 or 2 end up canceling.Anonymous User wrote:I'm (1) for three firms and (2) for another. I'll already be in town, but if you are sure you are coming you should book soon. Airline fares start rising three weeks before flight date.weee wrote:Only five more pending for me, pretty sure I'll attend at this point, have people starting booking airfare?

Re: Loyola PLIP thread for 2011
Hi, quick question, have you guys seen any instances of "preselect" changing to something less exciting?
Does "preselect" mean "selection entered ahead of the June 20th deadline," or does it mean "we cast a wide net at this stage, but we will narrow things down by the end?" In the second case, I am not sure why the system would want to appraise applicants of that fact.
Bottom line, I have 8 "preselect" (3 or so alternates, the rest a mix of "pending" and "not invited,") and I am wondering just how excited I should get. I don't wanna get my hopes up.
Also, I am 8th alternate for one of the firms. But the other two alternates, there is no indication of how far down the line I am. It just says "alternate." Does this mean anything?
Thanks.

So what day are you guys booking your return flights? Friday, or the day after?

Is the consensus that preselects are a lock?BarCliff wrote:So what day are you guys booking your return flights? Friday, or the day after?

In this thread, http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=121098, the term "preselect" seems to mean "selected," but then that thread reflects the final results.
It would also help to know if employers themselves select candidates in simplicity, or if they merely pass on their choices to Loyola, who them updates the database accordingly. If it is the latter, preselects are likelier to be a lock.

Re: Loyola PLIP thread for 2011
I have no idea whether preselects are a lock. I'm close to double-digits in pre-selects and thought it would be a safe bet to go ahead and book the air ticket. My only concern is what time all the things end on Friday. Is there any chance attorneys go out for dinner after? Or (as I'm thinking probably the case) do people just want to get the hell out of there and fly home that night?

Re: Loyola PLIP thread for 2011
I planned a 10 PM flight home on Friday last year just in case anything happened for dinner and nothing did. I guess its up to you depending on how late you want to get back.
Outside of Chicago firms I can't see many interviewers sticking around an extra night just for kicks.

Re: Loyola PLIP thread for 2011
Well, all my "pending" turned into "non invited" this morning. Last time I looked at this was 11pm last nite. I guess the database must have updated overnight?
Preselects and alternates are intact (8 & 3). But these batch fluctuations are worrisome.
I look at the firms who selected me, and I can't see a pattern that would indicate why they chose me. So odd.
EDIT: Someone upthread said "One of mine that said 'not selected' last night reads 'preselect' this morning." -- So I guess the overnight batch change means nothing.
Although reading this thread and others, it seems like the "preselect" are safe, I am going to wait till the 20th to book a flight.

wow, all my pending went to not invited this morning. rough, only two alternates. So is the consensus pretty much that at this point, the non-invites are not changing between now and the 20th?

This happened before. If its like last time, by this afternoon they'll change back to pending. The preselected stayed safeAnonymous User wrote:wow, all my pending went to not invited this morning. rough, only two alternates. anyone know what "alternate" means without a number in the parenthesis? do some firms just not rank alternates or something?
