Got email telling me I was ranked 4th for 2 spots and that offers went out today. Rubbing salt in the wound or telling me that there's still a chance? Do I reply with "grace" and "continued interest" ?

Then I don't see what's wrong with expressing your interest and letting them know you would accept on the spot because they're your number #1 choice or something, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So what exactly do you do when the firm you planning on working for goes under? I am really freaking that I have no employment as of this summer.

That really sucks. Just focus on getting something on your resume. It may not be too late to scramble for something public interest (I was offered an interview last week by an organization). Also, email professors from your school asking if they need a research assistant. At the same time, I'd try to volunteer for any legal or quasi-legal office in your area - your best bet may be asking for a favor through a contact or family friend. Finally, this is a situation where your career services office might actually be able to do something - start by contacting them.

If we were offered a straight-to-CB with a firm (secondary market), how do you initiate that contact to schedule a time? Mass mail type email with a reference to the CB offer or something else?

Here's how I played it:

I received a "we loved your credentials and want you to come straight-to-CB" massmail ding in early March and I recently replied back to that email (so that the history of the previous messages were there), but I updated the subject line with a little bit and uh...yeah, it worked. Just say you're still really interested in the firm and would love to meet or something idk

It was a hard copy letter, so not quite as clean--but thanks, Run. I'll throw a reference in the email.

People who got diversity positions for 1L SA, what were your grades like? Gauging what kind of grades are needed for these 2L diversity apps, bunch of firms have these programs. You can post anonymously if you have any info. Thanks <3

At my school, no grades were required for 1L diversity SA positions. We sent like 12 people to the program.

I'm at a v5 firm and I was top 5% at MVP (3.9). A friend at my school is at another v5 firm - she had a 4.0.

Hello everybody,
I have a few questions about 1L summer jobs.

How important is it to submit the application on December 1, as a few firms I looked up have deadline on Jan 11. What is the difference if you submit it on Dec 1 vs Jan 10?

Also, how should the written references from professors or work supervisors be submitted? I would think professors will have to e-mail them directly to the firms. Should they also be done on Dec 1 or can they be submitted later even if the rest of the application is submitted on Dec 1.

Thank you

How is there not a 2018 1L jobs thread yet? Or am I missing something?

Also, shouldn't be concerned about this until after finals. But, YMMV.

What do you want to know?

Pays $3,100 a week. Some form of diversity required but not just URM, e.g., LGBT qualifies. No specific grade requirement but recruitment clusters around several schools. Don't think they've ever taken anyone from Duke.

Thanks for replying. I was just wondering why there are no written specific requirements like other firms have.

Do they require written references? How many? Legal writing sample? How many pages? Personal statement? What does the application package consist of?

This is not to say that I am a qualifying applicant, just wondering why it isn't on their website.

Diversity statement (prompts) and resume. It's not a difficult application, it just only goes live on Dec 1.
