Reached out to an alum, he set up a coffee date with the office's hiring partner over winter break...can a job come of this?

Nobody can tell you whether that specific hiring partner might be interested in hiring or is just talking to you. I would lean towards "that sounds promising" but I certainly wouldn't rely on it or get your hopes too high. Also, even if there isn't a job on the table right now, it probably won't hurt to have met the hiring partner once 2L hiring rolls around in a few months.

This is exactly what it is and will do. Thanks!BigZuck wrote:Is this one of those firm portals where you have to upload different documents?BmoreOrLess wrote:When you're applying for a firm online and they ask for a transcript, are you just uploading a word document that says you will provide the transcript once it becomes available?
If so I'd email recruiting to ask how they want you to handle it

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
I just uploaded my cover letter or resume a second time so the system would accept my app. They can figure out that I'm a 1L and thus don't have grade yet. I had too many firms to apply to for some silly form to slow me down.BmoreOrLess wrote:This is exactly what it is and will do. Why don't y'all print a copy of your current unofficial transcript (which shows the classes you're in, but has no grades yet)?

My school lets you download an unofficial transcript without having to jump through any hoops. I called a firm and that's what they requested I do.

I didn't even think of that. It turns out I can get a PDF online pretty easily. I'll remember that next time I do 1L apps lol.BVest wrote:Why don't y'all print a copy of your current unofficial transcript (which shows the classes you're in, but has no grades yet)?

How are you applying? I don't see a way on NALP, and there isn't an easy way on any of the firm sites.

Lots of firms have drag-and-drop applications. The ones that don't, I emailed resume and cover letter to their recruiting coordinator. If no recruiting coordinator, hiring partner. If no clear hiring partner, for one firm I just emailed their general email address :/ not expecting big things from that one (lit boutique) :/Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:How are you applying? Look for a "Careers" link (sometimes under "professionals" or "attorneys") on their websites.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Are you finding the applications on the firm websites?nothingtosee wrote:Lots of firms have drag-and-drop applications. Yeah. Jones Day, e.g. you go in careers, then opportunities, then you end up here: http://selfapply.jonesday.com/apply/red ... tegoryID=3 where you click to the drag-and-drop.BVest wrote:Look for a "Careers" link (sometimes under "professionals" or "attorneys") on their websites.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Are you finding the applications on the firm websites?nothingtosee wrote:Lots of firms have drag-and-drop applications. Just and FYI, Locke Lord isn't having a summer program next summer. I think they're in the process of merging? They killed their summer program a few days after OCI.nothingtosee wrote:Yeah. If only it were that easy. They don't even generate transcripts for us until we have grades it seems (Unless any other GULCers have figured it out?).KM2016 wrote:TCR.BVest wrote:Why don't y'all print a copy of your current unofficial transcript (which shows the classes you're in, but has no grades yet)?

I saw the merger, but does that mean no summer program? They're coming to campus to accept resumes and such so that seemed odd if they aren't hiring.KM2016 wrote: Just and FYI, Locke Lord isn't having a summer program next summer. Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
A friend of mine received a callback, and two days pre-callback he received a phone call in which they told him that they had to cancel the summer program. Maybe things have changed since then, but I imagine this was due to the impending merger. It's worth sending an application, but I highly doubt they hire any 1Ls if they cancelled their summer program for 2Ls.Attax wrote:I saw the merger, but does that mean no summer program? I haven't heard anything about this so maybe it's a good thing but I would avoid any firm in the midst of a merger if you can help it.KM2016 wrote:A friend of mine received a callback, and two days pre-callback he received a phone call in which they told him that they had to cancel the summer program. Is it a good idea for 1Ls to work spring semester?

Spring grades are just as important as fall grades. I can't think of a good reason to burden yourself if it's not financially necessary.sesto elemento wrote:Is it a good idea for 1Ls to work spring semester?
