Does anyone know when we find out how many pre-selects we have?

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
SFIPLA pre-selects are out June 6.
I just got my second semester grades back, dropped a little bit (still top 20%, barely). Hoping firms won't look at a slight drop too negatively during screeners (assuming I get interviews). Although my school didn't rank after first semester, they gave us rough cutoffs and it looks like I was around top 15% after first semester (maybe slightly better). I put "top 20% based on first semester grades" on my resume to be safe, so at least I don't have to change that and can now provide it with the exact class rank.

For anyone that is working a biglaw job their 1L summer, did you include that on your resume for Loyola? I did not, but just curious if I made a mistake in leaving it off.

OK, thanks. I'll add it to my resume for SIPJF then unless others disagree.

ugh, I forgot that SIPJF existed and didn't sign up.Ned Racine wrote:OK, thanks. I'll add it to my resume for SIPJF then unless others disagree.

On another note: any good TLS guides on how to approach the patent bar? i.e., study methods, study material, how long I should prepare?
I've been looking and I guess I've seen PLI mentioned the most but some say it's not worth the money. However, with the post-AIA, I'm guessing an up to date PLI may be worth it?
Also, I've seen preparation time range from a month to 5 months on various threads and other websites. I'm assuming the number of hours per day varied, but how many hours and months should I put in to pass this thing?
Thanks in advance guys

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
I just took the PLI live course in NYC. Obviously haven't taken the test yet, but it seemed solid. PLI says 150-200 hours of study needed to pass with their guidance. Personally, I don't know how you would pass without some kind of help. The MPEP is huge, obtuse, and some sections aren't tested at all, while others (700 and 2100) comprise half the test.lhanvt13 wrote:Ned Racine wrote:

It's a lot of cash, but so is taking the bar in the first place. I also rationalized it because I figured if it helps me land an SA at PLIP, then it already has paid for itself.

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
I'm studying this summer for the end-of-summer/fall exam, and I'm using the Bullseye outline (120 pages) and will supplement it with reading the new AIA stuff later, then just a lot of practice tests. I'm doing this method because I've taken many patent classes and worked at patent firms, so I'm familiar with the lingo.lhanvt13 wrote: On another note: any good TLS guides on how to approach the patent bar? i.e., study methods, study material, how long I should prepare?

How do you like the Bullseye outline? Worth the money? Is the material ripped off of other sites, or did they create it from scratch?

Re: Loyola PLIP 2014 Thread - Strategies?
Bullseye is a pretty easy read (comparing to the 3000-page MPEP). The material is old and outdated tho, and they haven't updated in forever (since 2003 I think). I got it from a friend so I'm using it, but if I have to choose, I'd prob go with something newer.
I haven't really looked at other websites so I can't answer your second question.

Thanks for the input guys! I guess I'll start studying now and get ~4 hours in each day? Hope that works for the end of summer exam

There a bunch of PLI patent practice guides on Bloomberg. They look pretty legit.

You could study with the practice tests alone. The patent bar tests your familiarity with what the MPEP chapters cover and how well you use ctrl-f.

Are all the prior exams available only from 1999-2003? I want to make sure I'm not missing any published current exams.kcdc1 wrote:You could study with the practice tests alone. The patent bar tests your familiarity with what the MPEP chapters cover and how well you use ctrl-f.

This is regarding SIPJF. What should go on my resume if I don't yet have a class percentile/rank? Just my GPA? Should I indicate that that info is pending?

SFIPLA schedules are out, 6 interviews here. Anyone know if there is a waitlist function or anything that you can put yourself onto? Missed out one or two employers I was really hoping for..

I guess it's still worth going even though I don't have any ties to CA? half of the interviews are for CA offices and half are for either NY or DC.
