What are the chances that a 1L SA has of receiving return employment (2L, permanent) from Steptoe?

They have no offered 2 people in the last couple of years. Overall. And for really legitimate reasons. They replaced those 2 no offers with 3 3Ls. The two no offers we're in 2011.

And if you are worrying about them, then you have a reason to worry. Mainly because it wouldn't just be Steptoe turning you down.

Perhaps he should hit up eHarmony and find his "Mountain Mama"? Having a significant other in WV will prob be a helluva lot convincing to employers than, "I wanna to reform public education in Appalachia even tho I have no meaningful connection to the region".

(Don't get me wrong, I love my friend, but he does have his head in the clouds about certain things!)

Also, just found out that he cold called places over Christmas break, and those employers said they were looking specifically for WVU kids. Damn, what an insular market!!

It's very hard for 1Ls to break into the market unless they are at WVU. Them's the breaks. Much easier as a 2L.

No problem. I ran across this board looking for a similar answer.

Its a WV office. Had an OCI screener. "Call" for callback about 3 weeks later. Went to the office a week after that for the interviews. Offer 2 days later. Hope that helps.

That does help. I am waiting to hear back from a CB in a WV office. It's one of the smaller ones.

Anyone have updates from S&J?

Here is an email from them:

I wanted to touch base with everyone who is officially signed on for summer 2013 at S&J! We are at the tail-end of our 1L recruiting and have several offers outstanding, but as of right now there are 13 of you and we expect 20-21 summer associates firm-wide this year. (note -- this number obviously includes 2L SAs of which there are more than 1L SAs)

A few details that you will need for planning purposes are:

1. The summer program will begin on May 20 and will end on July 26.

2. We will kick-off the program with a dinner on Sunday, May 19, in Bridgeport, WV.

3. The orientation will be May 20-21 in our Bridgeport, WV office.

4. May 22 will be your first day of work in your local office.

5. There are several summer events that all of you will be invited to participate in during the summer. Once those dates are finalized, I will forward you that information.
