+1 - I found the LA people generally friendly, laid back, and seemingly satisfiedAnonymous User wrote:Which office was this? I had a callback (LA) and didn't get a worn out vibe at all. It did seem like the associates worked very hard, but that face-time wasn't critical. I was consistently told that ~2,200-2,300 billables was the norm for starting associates which is high but not outside the realm of normal biglaw. FWIW, I've also heard that the NY office is more uptight than the California offices.Anonymous User wrote: I had a CB and got the impression that the associates are worked nearly to death. Some of the associates looked really worn out and mentioned that office face-time is required and common on weekends. They appeared to be afraid of leaving the office early (before 7pm) to work from home and mentioned that 12 hour days are a regular occurrence. Do any SAs know if this is representative of life at Quinn? I would also be interested to know the billable hour expectations.
I was impressed with the emphasis on giving new associates substantive work but I am really hesitant about the hours expectations at Quinn. I have gone on CBs at other firms but the feeling of being worked to exhaustion was palpable at Quinn.
I haven't done any other CBs yet, so I have no basis of comparison.

Re: Quinn Emanuel?
Carrying your mobile and checking it when it buzzes is the most basic expectation at every firm. The way Quinn handled it is the only unique thing about this situation.r6_philly wrote:The associate didn't fail to do what a boss told him before he left. The boss tried to give him a task before the boss left. The point of the letter was that everyone should expect that a task may be assigned to you after you leave the office, to be done before you come back the next morning. Read that however you want, but generally I read it as you are on call 24/7. I don't see a problem with this email, but I also don't think every firm expect you to complete NEW tasks when you are away from office.

Not every firm will expect you to complete something new overnight where the task was not time critical (obviously it was not since no harm no foul).gyarados wrote: Carrying your mobile and checking it when it buzzes is the most basic expectation at every firm. You've missed the point entirely. But I'm patient. You'll get it in a few days. There are plenty of those careers. Law is not one of those, but they are out there.sundance95 wrote:oh sry, didn't realize you found the six figure career where you're not expected to be available in the evening. plz share, tyiaFresh Prince wrote:Looks like sundance is already wearing his knee pads

Issue isn't the career. We all know we have to work hard in this profession.r6_philly wrote:There are plenty of those careers. Sundance is wearing knee pads because he thinks that email is acceptable.

It's my impression that the DC office isn't hiring in any substantial numbers; at our "party" I don't remember there being anyone from Dc. I don't think that there'll be many offers

I had a call back and I'm still waiting on a yes or no. Based on the timeline people have given, if I don't get an offer in the next few days then a ding seems imminent.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone been dinged after a NY callback?

I think a more salient question is this: has anyone had an NY CB recently (last week or two) and received an offer? Given that there's anecdotal evidence that people are accepting offers before OCIs, I wonder how close to booked the NY QE SA class is.

This thread is somewhat of a microcosm of working at Quinn
. Strong personalities abound, shart-tongued arguments, and haters hating from the outside. I love it.

Re: Quinn Emanuel?
The HR people are smart, they aren't going to write off the entire class before they've OCI'd at a bunch of schools they like to recruit from. I know an SF callback got an offer the other day.Anonymous User wrote: I think a more salient question is this: has anyone had an NY CB recently (last week or two) and received an offer?
