The weird, grade-obsessive nerds should probably just keep Milbank’s name out their mouths

Not aspies, just genuinely quirky or unique classmates. Interesting is maybe the best descriptor. I have seen Milbank pass on a few candidates with higher GPAs but they normally go for median to slightly above it from T6 and probably T14 generally. They seem to care a little bit about the personalities of the future attorneys they're recruiting. I am not trying to give them too much credit here. They're a biglaw firm at the end of the day. It's just that I've noticed a commonality in the people going there from my T6.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 2:44 pmthis is the most attractive thing I've heard about milbank -- assuming you aren't just using quirky as a euphemism for aspie, law students and lawyers could generally use a little more quirkAnonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 2:37 pmThey took median or slightly above median candidates from my T6. They also seem to prioritize students with some kind of international background. Kinda like Cleary in that sense.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 2:55 pmNot aspies, just genuinely quirky or unique classmates. Interesting is maybe the best descriptor. Yeah that seems in line with what I've seen. Individuals with work experience as well. My only critique of Milbank's recruitment is that they will look at a median candidate at a T14 before they look at a candidate in the top 10% at a T20. Which seems insane to me. I suppose a lot of firms have this outlook and I understand it with lower tier schools, but not T20.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:00 pmThey also seem to prioritize students with some kind of international background. I can’t comment on Milbank, but Cleary is the absolute worst with that, totally school-snobbish. Most V10s do a relatively better job at scooping up the top 5-10% across the T40ish schools.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:02 pmMy only critique of their recruitment is that they will look at a median candidate at a T14 before they took at a candidate in the top 10% at a T20. I mean there were 0 Fordham summers in 2021, which should have a few at least. Every other firm in that range (with the exception of Wachtell) had a few Fordham summers. CCN to Milbank here involved in recruiting. This post is fairly accurate. In the batch of NYC-bound transactional folks with some international flair in my class (we’re talking a sample size of 8 to 10 people), a majority landed at Cleary and Milbank. Those who were above median to Cleary, and those at or below to Milbank. Having said that, I think Milbank is noticeably pickier at my T6 than when I was recruited six or seven years ago.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:00 pmThey also seem to prioritize students with some kind of international background. I go to a T6 and Milbank has a slightly higher gpa profile than Cleary out of my school (slightly above median at Milbank vs median at Cleary). S/O is at a T14 and their recruitment stats from career services say Milbank takes slightly above median 3.4 and Cleary is a little higher.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:38 pmCCN to Milbank here involved in recruiting. Weirdly cleary has been one of the most popular/easier New York offices to get out of Berkeley in recent years. Might be selection bias though (people going to same firm as their friends)jedibill wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:34 pm6 years old, but Cleary's snobbishness is only second to Wachtell: https://abovethelaw.com/careers/2016-ra ... -pedigree/Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:26 pmCleary fucking loves Harvard.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 3:13 pmI mean there were 0 Fordham summers in 2021, which should have a few at least. I'm okay with the day never coming because, honestly, I already get paid way too much for this job. I'm in NYC corporate and yes I work some late nights. But compared to what truly disadvantaged people go through, I have a great life.
If anything, the V50 should raise for women and BIPOC associates only. That would mean personally missing out on the raise, but nothing would make me prouder of my firm.

Easier, yes. Easy generally, not necessarily. Most of the V10 even for transactional work is competitive. Yes even Kirkland, for their Chicago office (HQ) not NY. Less competitive than lit, but by no means an easy time.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 4:27 pmTo clarify, I was speaking mainly about students interested in lit in that particular year. I don't get why firms can't just match and then match again if they have to.
