All I can say is that I had a strange experience at my slightly less prestigious V-50. I got stuck on a pro bono case that was basically me defending two marines who were accused of killing someone when they were stationed in Iraq. At the beginning of the summer I was playing softball and attending the social functions like a regular SA, but then the partner on the case wanted me to start researching something about a code red. I wound up spending most of the summer on this, and even got in touch with the head of the marines. Really, all I wanted was the truth. But the head marine insisted that I couldn't handle the truth. I spent many a night in the library till 3 or 4 AM to try to find out the truth. I could've used Westlaw but the firm said that this wouldn't look as cool for their recruiting video.

This was not even funny. You should be ashamed that you wasted both your time writing this and my time reading it.

Makes as much sense as being as vital as he made his SA out to be.

That's what I figured. Was too lazy to sift through all the angst in this thread to see if it'd been discussed already.

Got a call from recruiting today. They told me that firm wide productivity is crumbling around them because I'm not there anymore. I feel awful, they really need me out there but there's nothing I can do :(

Yeah the global offices even more so. Turns out that London was waiting on my review of the precedent document wherein I drafted a high level markup reflecting the subtle nuances of the transaction including but not limited to: changing names, dates, and in some instances even removing entire substantive phrases such as "Circular 230" and "This document shall be governed by Delaware law".

Without me there is apparently no one left to do the work, so London lies in wait until my triumphant return next fall so that I can finally complete my sophisticated legal review enabling them to distribute the documents to other satellite offices such as Frankfort, Seoul, and even Los Angeles.

The only way that I can sleep at night right now is knowing that clients demanded and more importantly paid for my work.

My firms don't decide until mid September and October. (Secondary market big law) Fml

Sucks. If you were neurotic like me, you'd be replaying everything from the summer until you went insane. I'd hustle like you're no offered, but not think about it. If you get another offer it doesn't really matter what the outcome is unless you want your firm or no firm at all... but that type of devotion would be like a really nerdy version of The Notebook and weird as hell.

This goes back a bit, but did anyone else's firm's Lexis reps offer free user accounts for summertime? We were given a new usernames for the firm, a handful of hrs free on WL and the summer free on Lexis. No ethical dilemma there.

We were given Lexis usernames, and told it was free. What ethical dilemma is there? There's no Lexis or Westlaw police roaming around. It became a self promotion for Lexis. Nobody told us to use Lexis because it was free, but one would feel guilty using Westlaw if they could find the same thing on Lexis for free.

Been more than two weeks and I'm definitely replaying everything from the summer right now. What's the reason they wait so long to make a decision? Historically 100% offer-rate firm.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
