How many cbs is "safe"? Assuming offices in NY with decent class sizes.

It depends. I'd check the callback to offer ratio for each firm. I have 9 and I still feel leery.

I thought 4 was a safe number.

I have at least 2 with big classes and an offer rate of (50%+) Should I start massmailing? Also waiting on a few from a secondary market.

Talked to career services today. Apparently having 3 or fewer is their benchmark for when they actively reach out to you to discuss other options. That should start around September 2nd. So 4 seems to be the standard "safe-zone."

I thought the interview went well and this is a firm I really wanted. Obviously expect the worst at this point, but really want some closure.
I'm also waiting on this interviewer. I also thought my interview went well, and overall I've had a decent number of callbacks from the interviews I subjectively thought went well. I think there's a non-negligible chance this interviewer just hasn't done calls yet.
CB from Deb JL yesterday, though I'm not sure if he made all of his calls at once.

Barring some late miracle I will have just two CBs, both next week. Last year each firm had a 50%-60% offer ratio - but with just two there's clearly not a lot of room for error.

What I'm asking is this: can anyone who's been through the process already give some tips/advice? I'm a nervous wreck right now.

I wouldn't call unless you plan to accept. I'd email instead.

A quick question about scheduling callbacks.

When asked which departments I'm interested in, how should I respond if I'm leaning corporate but am also interested in litigation? Should I decide on one practice area, or make it known that I'm still deciding between the two?

In the case of the latter, I wonder if taking that position will give the impression that I'm sitting on the fence.

They aren't trying to trick you. You can tell them you're interested in both, but I'd add reference to some subgroups so they have an idea of who to have interview you. If you think you like M&A, bankruptcy, and securities litigation, say so. No one expects you to know right now exactly what you want to do, even between corporate or litigation.
