Can't confirm or deny, but things I have heard:
- this year's summer class was oversubscribed and they knew it in December of 2013 (from someone at the firm)
- the summer class were told that there would be a lot of no offers because there were too many of them (from someone who had lunch with 2 people at the firm this summer)
- there was a rumor on TLS that they'd be no offering
You gotta think that where there's smoke, there's fire.

A lot of anti-Mayer Brown speculation ITT. I don't have any skin in the game and I don't get the sense that MB is a sinking ship like it's painted out to be. Just to push back on anyone who actually is starting to believe that MB is literally dying --
From Feb, 2014:
Mayer Brown saw profits per equity partner jump more than 11 percent in 2013, to $1.285 million—the highest profits ever for the firm. This comes on the back of 5 percent revenue growth, according to The American Lawyer's reporting.

From May, 2014:
PERHAPS THE REPORTS of Big Law's last days were premature. Mayer Brown, the firm that The New Republic spotlighted last year as a case study for dysfunction in the large law firm business model, saw profits per equity partner jump more than 11 percent in 2013, to $1.285 million, its highest ever.
The firm's previous record, $1.24 million, had been set in 2007, prior to the financial crisis. However, Mayer Brown's equity partnership was much larger then-318, compared with 269 in 2013.
Chairman Paul Theiss says that Mayer Brown's litigation and finance practices had strong years, and that revenue was up in each of the firm's three geographic regions- the Americas, Asia and Europe. Gross revenue hit $1.146 billion in 2013, up 5 percent from 2012, and revenue per lawyer grew 4 percent, to $780,000.
On the corporate side, the firm represented Chinese state-owned chemical giant Sinochem in its purchase of a 40 percent stake in an oil and gas leasehold from Dallas' Pioneer Natural Resources Company, which was represented by Vinson & Elkins. Mayer Brown litigators, meanwhile, helped shepherd a contentious $8.5 billion settlement through the courts for client Bank of New York Mellon Corp., which was acting in its role as the trustee of a trove of distressed mortgage-backed securities issued by Countrywide Financial Corp.
"Over the last dozen years or so we've built a very nice global footprint to ... serve the world's largest financial institutions and other global companies," Theiss says. "The growth that we've had in doing that has led to efficiencies [that allow us to] operate as a single global firm." For example, he says, a recent review of Mayer Brown's real estate needs and leases helped bottom-line growth outpace topline growth. He also says the firm has been able to manage overhead by centralizing some vendor relationships and inhouse functions.

UChicago 2L here. Sidley associates told me the same thing during callback as far as mb not having enough space for litigation SA's (take with appropriate grains of salt)

I posted the list of things I'd heard up top.
To be clear, I don't think MB is sinking or in trouble, but I do think something weird happened to them last cycle. Could be as simple as being more popular than they thought.

I know it may not make sense to think of each office in discrete terms, but do we know anything about MB's DC office? Have am outstanding offer that I am leaning towards accepting but this discussion is concerning.

MB DC is such a different animal with its appellate work I would think Chicago rumors wouldn't apply, but that's just my ignorant opinion.

The summer class was never told that there would be any no offers, let alone "a lot of no offers". I'd double check your source on that point.

Yeah, it's just that some of us are going to be working on important legal matters and enjoying a spot in the 1%, while others of us will be trolling courthouses, representing traffic offenders at $25 a pop :-/

Think GW is the only one near K st, which might make sense. My understanding is they were looking to focus on T14s (eg this summer's class is mostly HYS)
