Has anyone heard back from the Latham 7/9 superday CB, or are people still waiting?

Mind sharing which Houston firms?Anonymous User wrote:I did a few interviews in Houston last week and got an offer 2 days later. From what I know, most of these have gone out to people that interviewed during 1L OCI and either chose to go to other firms or there wasn't room in the 1L program but the firm still wants to pursue them. There will likely be more movement starting middle of next week, as that is when my firm will be extending returning offers to our 1L SA's - once they know whether people will be coming back, they will probably start extending offers to new folks.Anonymous User wrote:Has anybody heard anything in Dallas? Sidley, BB and V&E. I think firms are trying to take advantage of pre oci because schools like UT are trending away from primarily pre-select OCI and firms think they have more control if they hire by means other than OCIAnonymous User wrote:Mind sharing which Houston firms?Anonymous User wrote:I did a few interviews in Houston last week and got an offer 2 days later. Re: Pre-OCI 2019
OK so the only classes that are 1-6 summers in DC are likely firms like Milbank who are NYC based but have a DC satellite. I interviewed (pre-OCI and OCI) with more than 20 V100 firms, and work at a V10 in DC and almost every single one had a summer class of at least 15. If you are competitive for DC, it's almost a guarantee your summer class will be 15-40 people unless you're at Covington (90) or W&C (around 50).Anonymous User wrote:Pre oci in DC is super important. My old firm in dc only does pre oci and it is not the only firm that fills up its dc class through pre oci. Remember, dc is a small market with the number of summer associates. Classes aren’t huge (outside of a handful of firms). Most of the v100s class sizes in dc range from 1-6ish summers in total. If you aren’t doing pre oci in dc, you are doing it wrong.Anonymous User wrote:How important is pre-OCI in the DC market? I only plan to bid a small handful of NY firms so not super interested in mass mailing there, but a little worried about DC because I’m doing a 1L SA in a different market so I haven’t been able to attend any firm receptions/network.
Also if I did end up getting an interview, I wouldn’t be able to skip a day of my 1L SA to fly out so am I OK just sticking to OCI or should I really be trying to get something now too?
Speaking as someone who only got dc offers pre oci and whose former firm literally only does pre oci recruiting now. Literally doesn’t go to a single oci anymore.
There are also a number of firms that do not do significant pre-oci interviewing. It certainly helps to be here, and you should definitely try to reach out. With that being said, I have a lot of classmates who ended up at elite DC firms and did not participate in pre-OCI.

I just had my pre-oci at a firm and there was no lunch after the fourth interview. Does that mean they already decided they're not hiring me?

Pre-OCI isn’t as formal and organized for the most part. When I pre-OCIed years ago I think a minority of the firms that offered me did the lunch thing. A lot of them were quite rushed and I was sneaking out during summer SA to do the interviews though.

Did this back when it was in open data. Sick test if they let you see the results.Anonymous User wrote:Have a callback at one of O'Melveny/Latham and was told that this assessment was voluntary. Should I complete it? Seems like it might hurt my application more than help.

Re: Pre-OCI 2019
How much power do recruiters have in deciding who gets an offer? I had 4 really good interviews with a firm today but before those I slightly messed up by showing up 7 minutes before my interview when the recruiter had asked me to be there about 10 minutes early. I was also sweating quite a bit. I went to the restroom to freshen up before the first interview but the recruiter saw me sweating.

I don't think you need to worry about that. Your interviewers will basically vote on your candidacy. Th recruiter is more like the initial application screener and facilitator in the process and as long as you don't do anything inappropriate or egregious, you should be fine, provided the interviews go well.

What are the rules on post-CB thank you notes? Yes, no? What if I promised I would email someone a link to something -- just send an email to that person and include a thank you but message nobody else?

Re: Pre-OCI 2019
If you promised you'd send a link then include a thank you in there, also definitely send out thank you's if you really clicked with someone and personalize it, or to everyone if you're in the south. For NY generic biglaw there doesn't seem to be a consensus and TLS in the past has been very divided.Anonymous User wrote:What are the rules on post-CB thank you notes? Yes, no? Re: Pre-OCI 2019
So average turnaround for STB from CB to offer/ding has been a week or more?

Its been extremely variable but seems to be moving faster as of late. Recent dings have been coming a few days after CB and haven't heard of any offers lately but know of people that still haven't heard back that had CBs 2+ weeks ago.Anonymous User wrote:So average turnaround for STB from CB to offer/ding has been a week or more?

Re: Pre-OCI 2019
Not necessarily. Their hiring committee meets twice a week and my reading of it is that if they know they want you, they'll offer within a week and if they don't want you, they'll reject you within a week too. If they're on the fence, they'd probably want to wait to compare you to other candidates interviewing later, because they also probably do not want to extend too many offers.
As noted, they called me and they sent a follow-up email the next day. They'll probably mail something official, I'm guessing.
Good luck.
