This might be a dumb question--but do you really not get paid for the day if you have to skip? I thought it was essentially a salary for the summer?2014 wrote:No but I don't see why that would take a whole day, you should be able to pin them down to an hour or two window and just be home for that time (and then still get paid for the day also). People take furniture or other deliverys all the time in cities, it won't give anyone pause.Anonymous User wrote:I'm going to miss one day out of a ten-week SA because my household goods are being delivered. The moving company won't deliver on weekends or holidays, and I don't have anyone I can designate as a receiving agent to accept my stuff for me, so missing a day is pretty much inevitable. I'll know the delivery date before the SA even starts, so I'll be able to give plenty of notice.
There's no reasonable way to hold this against me, is there? I figure if nothing else, it shows I'm serious about relocating to the area.

Cool, thanks. This isn't going to be a 1-2 hour job, unfortunately, since I'm having the entire contents of a 2,500 square foot house delivered. That also means I can't get any kind of delivery window smaller than "sometime on this date".2014 wrote:No but I don't see why that would take a whole day, you should be able to pin them down to an hour or two window and just be home for that time (and then still get paid for the day also). Things sure have changed since back in my SA days. We felt #blessed just to get reimbursed for plane tickets or gas mileage.

My firm last summer paid for July 4th and Memorial Day, obviously, as holidays. But if you asked to miss a friday or something, e.g. for a family wedding, you did not get paid that day.monsterman wrote:This might be a dumb question--but do you really not get paid for the day if you have to skip? my firm said specifically if you take more than a half day (for un-serious reasons) = no pay that daymonsterman wrote:This might be a dumb question--but do you really not get paid for the day if you have to skip? You might only be missing a few hours of fake billables, so it seems like "what's the difference?".
But, let's be honest, they're paying you to drink kool aid, not to bill, and missing a day's dose of kool aid means missing a day's pay.

It is our policy to reimburse those of you who are traveling to New York from out-of-town schools. Reimbursable expenses include reasonable round-trip coach airfare, train fare and rental car expenses related to your travel to New York. We will not reimburse for meals or lodging during your trip.

That's not moving expenses. That's just normal travelling expenses, which I think all firms do for SAs. I know firms give stipends for moving expenses for incoming associates but not as an SA.

Haven't heard anything from my firm since letting them now of when I can start. (around feb.)
Secondary market mid-west boutique paying around 2k a week. Are travel arrangement covered? How do you ask? They reimbursed my callback obvsly.
Should I just not mention anything about reimbursements until after I start?

Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to ask now. Just call up HR/recruiting contact person.Anonymous User wrote:Haven't heard anything from my firm since letting them now of when I can start. (around feb.)

I had friends get summer moving stipends, like a grand or so usually - it's definitely not unheard of. It's definitely not a thing in NY though (my knowledge is imperfect, but I think literally no NY firms do it).

You can probably get by with 0 suits but it's good to have one sit in your office all summer even though you probably won't actually have to wear itSplitMyPants wrote:That's my plan.californiauser wrote:Can I get through a 2l sa with one suit at a business casual firm?

Do firms typically let you take your work laptop home? Or is there no need? Reason I ask, do I need to go out of my way to get a computer bag?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
