Re: Use of Smokeless Tobacco (Chewing Tobbaco) In Office Setting
I ventured out to a Starbucks today. While I was looking over the menu trying to decide what to order I was tempted to get an iced drink since the weather is nice outside and it sounded refreshing (plus a nice break for responding to / objecting to discovery). Then I quickly remembered that the iced drinks at Starbucks are served in a clear plastic cup! I plan on having a huge dip this afternoon before I take off for a meeting/dinner later this afternoon and I don't want to have a clear plastic cup sitting on my desk full of spit. So I made the obvious choice, I went with a warm coffee drink which is served in a white paper cup, basically because it would make for a better spitter this afternoon.

I'm working on an issue involving insurance on a tobacco crop (flue-cured tobacco.) I just saw some pictures of harvested bales of tobacco. They look like giant bales of Red Man tobacco, only dry not moist. I could almost taste and smell the succulence of a freshly opened bag of Red Man while looking at the pictures.
Too bad I only have Grizzly Wintergreen pouches.

Am from the NorthEast, currently work in the NYC metro region. Tobacco in general is widely seen as disgusting. There are a few smokers in my building, sometimes people (not me) make comments when they get into the elevator about how they are making the entire building smell. I understand tat there are many hidden smokers/dippers in NYC but I think that many in this thread are underestimating just how much other people look down on it.A. Nony Mouse wrote:I think in the northeast dipping/chewing is definitely seen as more disgusting than smoking. I have never seen anyone chew/dip in a professional setting anywhere I've worked, though (admittedly if it is as easy to hide as you guys claim it's possible I just didn't notice).
Also the local TV stations have started running lovely PSAs about the dangers of dip, showing people with half their face/jaw removed.

I picked up smoking when I studied abroad 3L fall in Europe (I was the weird person when I didn't do it there, actually) and have continued since returning to CA. I get nasty looks about every time I smoke near my law school, and "you reek" comments are common from classmates. I enjoy it and plan on continuing through the end of bar study, but I couldn't picture doing it once I start working. The extent to which it is tolerated likely does vary by location, but I feel confident saying it's a bad thing in 90% of places.

OTOH you could start dipping/smoking if you want to suck up to a partner that also dips/smokes. That smokers' area bond is unbreakable

That is very true about the smokers' area bond. I wish dippers had a way to bond and form relationships over spitting into cups and bottles like that.ballouttacontrol wrote:OTOH you could start dipping/smoking if you want to suck up to a partner that also dips/smokes. Just harder to identify fellow dippers because most do it secretively. Once its known, the bond is strong.kellyfrost wrote:That is very true about the smokers' area bond. How are Vapes and eCig looked upon in firms?
My friend has been trying to quit smoking for over 10y now, he is 40y and quitting early in life has huge health benefits.

Good to see you're at least gauging people about this. I knew a guy in college that gutted in class and constantly had it in his teeth. Everyone noticed and I can't tell if he was trying to be more hidden by gutting or if he just didn't give a s*#$

Too many of those categories make no sense since someone will not use them on a regular basis (hookah, cigars) while for others someone will not know they are being used.

Anyone ever play on the firm/company soft ball team and dip during the games?
I'm thinking about dipping some Red Man out in centerfield this summer.
