Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
For the Honors Program, any idea when we might hear about interview schedule? I tried to look at last year's thread but they had to submit travel surveys by fax and that seems like a nightmare and that the turn around might be different. I just want to know, this feels like such a drawn out process!

I emailed mine on Thursday, but I never received a confirmation email.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody know if SLIP applicants are supposed to receive a confirmation after e-mailing the requested materials to the component, post-selection for consideration?
I also received just a general you've been selected from x office email for the same component in every state that I applied to. Do all the states work together and only 1 gives you an offer? Should I cancel the states I am least interested in going to?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
FYI this was posted yesterday for the question about multiple offers:
Myth-Buster # 1: Multiple Offers
There's an urban legend floating about to the effect that if you get multiple interviews with same component they somehow internally thrash it out so that you only get one offer.
It's not that organized. I guess it could theoretically happe, but typically, each interviewing office is completely free to issue offers to candidates of choice. So, let's say you hypothetically interviewed with three branches of the Civil Division and two wish to issue you an offer. You may be a primary for one and an alternate for the other, a primary for both, or any combination thereof. You could also have interviewed with another component. All interviewing offices could theoretically issue you an offer, albeit they may not come at the same time.
We also require our hiring offices to adhere to the NALP guidelines about the timing of offers and decisions. So don't feel like you have to respond instantenously (unless, of course, it's your dream job, then feel free.) If you are a law school graduate and technically don't fall within the NALP guidelines applicable to students, we tell our hiring offices to give you two weeks.
Hope this helps.

Yes. I had two interviews within a single component (two different offices), and received offers from both.Anonymous User wrote:To anyone who knows or has gone through the application program before, if you have two interviews within the same component, is it possible to get two offers, or would they work together to only issue one offer (hopefully haha)? For instance EOIR, if you have an OCIJ interview and a BIA or OGC interview. Thanks!

So um... who the hell do you contact if they just seemingly ignored your travel survey and scheduled you to fly on a day you said you were unavailable to fly?

eesh. Sadly, the email only says "If we inadvertently schedule you on a date you have listed, notify the designated scheduler and we will take appropriate corrective action."Anonymous User wrote:So um... who the hell do you contact if they just seemingly ignored your travel survey and scheduled you to fly on a day you said you were unavailable to fly?
I'm going to guess it's Felicia.foushee@usdoj.gov which is the email listed on the travel survey who they said to email "for assistance" with the travel survey. Might not hurt to send a message to Deana as well.
Good luck!

Same anon as before. I didn't apply to OCIJ and now my itinerary says I have an OCIJ interview on top of the division to which I actually applied. WTH is going on...Anonymous User wrote:So um... who the hell do you contact if they just seemingly ignored your travel survey and scheduled you to fly on a day you said you were unavailable to fly?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Just interviewed today and some advice: the Blue/Yellow lines are AWFUL. I waited an hour and a half for a yellow line train from the airport and almost missed my interview. On the way back, I waited 40 minutes before giving up and taking a cab. Give yourself an INSANE amount of time to get to and from there because they're running a single track through the stretch between the DOJ offices and the airport.

What component was the interview for? And if you don't mind sharing, did you have to do any case studies or were they just questions about experience and your background?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Hey yall,
I made a big boo boo.
I got selected for several components for SLIP, but did not read the email carefully enough and mistakenly did not send in a writing sample/resume/transcript to the various components.
I didn't realize this until one of the offices called me to schedule an interview. They thought that maybe it had gotten lost in the system or something.
Does anyone happen to know if it's too late to send in my materials to the various components? Or which offices are already scheduling interviews?
Thanks!!

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
regarding multiple offers from different components, i agree that the components do not deconflict post-interviews in any way, but i was talking to one of our component's interviewers and she mentioned a candidate and the other components this particular, very-attractive candidate was interviewing with. so its something that is in the interviewers' minds, and if you have an interview with a "more attractive" component it behooves you to convince the other components that you would be serious about joining them. otherwise they may withhold an offer for fear of getting a low yield and having it reflect poorly on their picking ability. YMMV and FWIW.

Happened to me too. I just sent in the materials. No big deal. I think it says in the email to send it in to whatever contact you were assigned. I don't think it makes a difference to the components that no-offered you. The way the email was written seemed like they decided to give you an interview, then went through doc check, not vice versa.JackOfAllTrades wrote:Hey yall,

Also, does anyone know about the correlation between components and Honors chances - if any?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Has anyone who's already interviewed submitted thank you notes to their interviewers? I did so on the understanding that this was common courtesy for basically any job interview, but I didn't receive any acknowledgment of my emails (e.g., not even a reply saying "thanks for coming in, we'll be in touch"). I'm probably being paranoid, but the radio silence in response makes me wonder if the interviews didn't go as well as I thought. So, I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

I sent thank yous to my interviewers (back when I applied) and heard absolutely nothing back. Still got hired. It's normal. People are busy. Don't read the tea leaves.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone who's already interviewed submitted thank you notes to their interviewers? (Besides, if an interviewer was inclined to respond to thank-yous, I don't think they're only going to respond to good interviewees and ignore the bad ones - they're either going to respond to all or none.)

Whew! I think you're right. I wish the process didn't take so long though. I have other offers which are very good (not as good as SLIP), but they will expire very soon.

Yeah, takes a while. The latest of the interview slots that I was offered was like Nov. 20.JackOfAllTrades wrote:Whew! I think you're right. I wish the process didn't take so long though. I have other offers which are very good (not as good as SLIP), but they will expire very soon.
