Re: 2015 University of Virginia OGI Thread
DC has been brutal for me.
comfortably top 10%
5 CBs/7 screeners elsewhere
3/13 in DC
of course, I have yet to be dinged by any DC firms, which is super weird (considering I have heard yes or no from everywhere else)
anyone else feeling the burn?

I know people with CBs for Kirkland, Vinson & Elkins, and Latham DC. Haven't heard anything about Hogan or H&W.Anonymous User wrote:CB or Dings from Hogan/Kirkland/Latham/Hunton & Williams/Vinson & Elkins (all DC)?

That's not especially brutal. I know a guy who may have been around top 5 or so in the class last year that only got like 5 offers out of 18 or so screeners from DC. They're just a lot more selective.Anonymous User wrote:DC has been brutal for me.

Re: 2015 University of Virginia OGI Thread
CBs and offers are just slower from DC, especially if it is a firm's satellite office - or at least that was my personal experience.
For example, I received a CB from Mofo DC during my actual screener interview, but I didn't receive an offer from the firm until a month after the CB interview. That was my general experience with the majority of DC offices. They have smaller summer classes and just tend to be more selective, even when you are the no.1 pick for the spot they won't actually pull the trigger until they interview all or the majority of candidates. And it makes sense, you can't just give out offers left and right the way they do in NYC since a lot of these summer classes are not even into the double digits.
At the same time some dings took longer to go out than others - for example I was dinged by Sidley Austin DC but I didn't receive the ding letter until a month or so after my screener interview. But I also know people who received CBs rather late into the OGI season from DC firms. I also got the feeling that because of the smaller summer classes some DC offices were not going to invite you for a CB or throw you an offer if they got the feeling that since you were no.1 in the class there was no way you were going to work for them over another DC shop.
So don't think you're out of the running yet just because there has been silence. But you also shouldn't be sitting around doing nothing but praying if you don't have any offers on the table yet.

Got a Latham CB today, about a week after I heard about the first batch of Latham CBs. I guess I read those tea leaves incorrectly.
