This may be true, I emailed a firm earlier today and have already been rejected.sublime wrote:I hear that all the 1L SA's in the nation have been taken.
Firms are serious about December 1st.
Those NY firms move fast.

Today was a fail. Bought the wrong sized envelopes last week; couldn't fit my writing sample. Waste of $18 at the Post Office. Had to go out and spend another $7 plus whatever shipping is, which I'll find out tomorrow

Does anybody know what the expected response time is from small or midsize firms with regards to apps?

One minute to never. Literally can't predict. You can always follow up after 3 weeks or so.umichman wrote:Does anybody know what the expected response time is from small or midsize firms with regards to apps?

I think that's pretty standard when applying to judges.hoos89 wrote:Why are you using paper?Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:Today was a fail. Any movement? I've gotten a few "we're not hiring" emails, but nothing to indicate that my resume has been looked at.

Thanks, you and checkers. For any wondering, though, I am just lucky and networked my ass off with some firms over the summer in the city I'm attending school. I'm also IP.

How can firms DING! so fast? Are they not hiring 1Ls at all?

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2017
Tons of reasons, likely because the person applying doesn't fit what they are looking for: ties to the area not good enough, not diverse enough, not IPish enough, too schmo-y/generic, etc.Baby_Got_Feuerbach wrote:How can firms DING! so fast? Are they not hiring 1Ls at all?
Applying to firms is probably a fool's errand for the vast majority of 1L's but the reward/effort ratio is super high and you never know if you'll end up like top 1% and will get hired for good grades alone.

When you're applying for a firm online and they ask for a transcript, are you just uploading a word document that says you will provide the transcript once it becomes available?

That's what I did, except I uploaded only PDFs.BmoreOrLess wrote:When you're applying for a firm online and they ask for a transcript, are you just uploading a word document that says you will provide the transcript once it becomes available?

Is this one of those firm portals where you have to upload different documents?BmoreOrLess wrote:When you're applying for a firm online and they ask for a transcript, are you just uploading a word document that says you will provide the transcript once it becomes available?
If so I'd email recruiting to ask how they want you to handle it

Better get used to it. I think my all time fastest ding was 5 minutes. Dings at this stage are super impersonal so try not to let them get to you because if you're doing it right you'll get lots of them (and even more next summer/fall).jj1990 wrote:First ding, oh well
