Eight screeners with three more coming this week (phase II OCI).
1 Callback (this week).
Four dings from early OCI, three firms still twisting in the wind, but probably dings.

I've got to nail this callback or else I must fade and go into the west.
The quote's not quite right and I have no idea who you are, but I really want you to get an offer solely on the basis of this reference.

5 CBs done, no more in the offing, haven't heard from anyone. All CA firms, so I expect they'll take several decades to get back to me.

Cali firms go slower? That would explain a lot...

I had a firm invite me for a callback, reschedule that callback at the last minute, then cancel the whole thing a day later (due to the firm meeting its hiring needs). Is this at all common, or am I just that undesirable? I have to say that this has me very worried :(

Edit: Should I assume that they knew they were going to cancel altogether as they were telling me they had to reschedule due to an unexpected client matter? The fact that they rescheduled my callback before canceling has me especially pissed, as this forced me to reschedule a flight at my own expense. Can I ask for reimbursement?

this is unbelievably shitty. i've never heard of it happening before & don't think it's common. it doesn't reflect negatively on you, but does reflect negatively on the firm.

in addition to asking for reimbursement for your rescheduled flight (to which you are absolutely entitled) & outing the firm on here, you should also let your school's CSO know what happened. most of my friends & i spoke to our CSO while we were in the process of choosing firms and they seemed willing to share other people's past negative experiences with firms, so you could also help future students avoid this firm.

Oh give it a break. students and firms screw around on each other all the time. Yes you deserve reimbursement but trying to launch a vendetta against the firm is a waste of time. What's the CSO going to do? Call the police? Doubtful he'll chastise the school; probably just grateful he can get people to campus to interview. No student hunting for a job should be avoiding any firm.

I do not want to start a vendetta against the firm. I just think the whole thing was ridiculous and made things far more frustrating than they needed to be.

I should clarify that the flight I had to reschedule was related to an interview with another firm, as the firm that both rescheduled and cancelled was located in the same city I live in. So, given that the flight was was not related to the interview (although I did tell the recruiter that I was also going to have to reschedule a flight if I rescheduled the interview), could I possibly ask for reimbursement of these rescheduling fees? I am about as broke as one can get, so these fees basically took up all of my disposable income. :x

Yes, of course you can ask them to pay the rescheduling things. They may or may not do so, but why the fuck are you even asking us if you can ASK?

I am off the boat! I had 12 CB's and got one offer (there are still 6 places I haven't heard from but its been 2+ weeks since the CBs), I have realized that I am a horrible 30 minute interviewer, but I am ok at the 20 minute screener ones. In the future I will need to work on this, but I am so happy to be done.

stop being ridiculous. informing a CSO about this type of conduct isn't related to "starting a vendetta" so much as providing relevant information to future job seekers. any student with a choice of firms would be looking for information indicating a firm s/he had an offer from is known for fucking over other students in the past. this kind of information is similar to economic no-offers & stealth layoffs, albeit on a much less serious level. (also, the bolded makes absolutely no sense.)

ETA: for the person who posted about the flight reimbursement, you should still try to get reimbursed for the rescheduled flight, although since it wasn't for the callback that got cancelled the firm might try to weasel out of paying you somehow. at the end of the day, you had to change your flight for the firm that cancelled on you, & you shouldn't have to eat a couple hundred dollars because of something wrong they did to you.

2 CB's down, 3 more to go. Just found out a friend got an offer from the first CB, same day as my interview, oh well.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
