Re: Northwestern OCI
I actually sent mine to the hiring partner post CB after being questioned about my grades during the interview with her. I think it just shows you really want it.
Ok cool, that's what I thought. I think I'll do that as well.
How do you guys mobilize your letter-writers to write a letter quickly enough? Would you ever ask a professor you know would write you a recommendation to write an email to the hiring partner who asked you about your grades? Edit: the firm in question is not very formal.
I'm afraid that they might read a sense of your desperation here. This is not an app for admission to law school. Here, in the real world, they don't care about LOCI's or faculty support (if they've alreqey given you a low grade). It just looks too amateurish.
Completely agree with this.

Yup, ship has sailed. Your CB interviewers fill out evaluations of you right after your individual CB interviews. The aggregation of that feedback is fed to the hiring committee who ordinally ranks/groups candidates.Anonymous User wrote:I'm afraid that they might read a sense of your desperation here. A last minute "rec" or "LOCI" (which isn't a thing in OCI) isn't going to change your evaluation that is already codified (aside from merely communicating your continued interest). Can only see this moving the needle if the recommendor has a special relationship with the firm (e.g. recently worked there; knows members of the hiring committee or the hiring partner).

Re: Northwestern OCI
Hypo: You receive a SA offer the fall of your 2L year and accept (to work between your 2L and 3L summer). You are just above the firms GPA threshold after 1L. You perform worse in 2L (than in 1L), dropping your GPA below the firm's GPA cut-off (firm where you accepted said SA offer).
1) Does this matter?
2) Do firms commonly request your 2L grades before you start as a SA (i.e. months after your SA offer-acceptance)?
3) If firms do request, do firms ever revoke offers/no offer SA's at the end of the summer for a GPA decline?
Thx.

fellow 2L but what I hear is this essentially never happens. you would have to fuck up on a massive scale for them to even think about it.Anonymous User wrote:Hypo: You receive a SA offer the fall of your 2L year and accept (to work between your 2L and 3L summer). Ha, thanks. Re: Northwestern OCI
3L who just went6 through SA. For me and most of my friends at other firms, we all had to sign an authorization for the firm to pull our 2L grades. So it is a factor in deciding on permanent offers. However, how significant a factor depends on your performance during the SA. A couple fellow SA's, apparently low performers, were grilled on their low GPA, setting a stage for a no-offer. They survived, but it was scary as shit.Anonymous User wrote:Hypo: You receive a SA offer the fall of your 2L year and accept (to work between your 2L and 3L summer). Re: Northwestern OCI
Clarification (and sorry for delay, just getting back to the thread): The letter I sent to the hiring partner was my performance review from my summer position, so I already had a copy of that to send over. I sent that + a list of references. We'll see how it pans out.Anonymous User wrote:How do you guys mobilize your letter-writers to write a letter quickly enough? Re: Northwestern OCI
Still at 0 offers. 4 CBs through OCI. 1 ding. 1 almost certainly a ding at this point but have not heard back. Should hear from the other two this week if the result is positive. So, this week will make or break my OCI season (legal career?).
In the meantime, I've moved on to reading tea leaves, because I've had enough of this applying/interviewing crap.

Keep going with massmail and networking. Treat this one day at a time, more like a marathon and not a sprint. You'll be okay in the end.Anonymous User wrote:Still at 0 offers. 4 CBs through OCI. 1 ding. 1 almost certainly a ding at this point but have not heard back. It's not over. Have you mailed the entire Four or More list? Have you mailed every market? Have you networked, contacted alums basically everywhere? It's not over until you give up. Literally, there's always something more to do.Anonymous User wrote:well got my final callback ding... its over ive struck out.... mass mailed and everything... its over

DO NOT give up. I'm also not sure what Four or More is, but I know NYC is still looking for transactional people, the number of 3L offers is incredible compared to years past.

This is an unfair characterization. Very smart and incredible people CHOOSE to go to smaller law firms where they can get meaningful work earlier and have better lives in general. Don't let TLS snobbery affect you.Anonymous User wrote:ie. Chicago's ShitLaw list.
