I know that we shouldn't take anything for granted until we have an offer, but there are definitely some firms that I'm more intereste in, and I have 13 callback invitations so far and don't want to go in that many if I can avoid it. Id also love to give my classmates with fewer callbacks a chance to interview there if I can help open up a spot for them. Should I still schedule and cancel later, or wait to see if I hear back from one of my preferred firms, which I've scheduled early on?
I scheduled the eight I cared most about for this week and next and I'm leaving the rest unscheduled for now; I simply declined one since I wouldn't take it over an outstanding offer. I figure if these first few start off horribly I'll stick in the remainder for Aug 25th onward. If I get an offer from one of these early ones I'll notify the unscheduled that I'm no longer interested. I agree that 10+ is unwieldy and I wouldn't want to schedule more than what I've already put on my plate. Then again, I recognize this is a rather obnoxious position to be in relative to the reverse.
What is the policy for canceling scheduled CBs once booked?

Let them know ASAP, so that they can give the spot to someone else. 48 hours notice is preferable, but 24 is required. Within 24, go on the callback.

Email or none. I usually write mine, but I forgot once and still got an offer.

So should I book them now for early September and cancel later if need be or just don't call them back for 2 weeks?

If they're someone you can see yourself working for, I would call. Then cancel if things change. If you it's pretty unlikely that you would see yourself working there, I would call in 2 weeks. But I guess it all depends on how risk averse you are/how kind you want to be to your fellow classmates.

Got an email from a recruiter, asking to email him back regarding scheduling a callback. I emailed him last weekend, and with my preferred dates, and didn't hear anything, so I emailed again today and still haven't heard anything. I haven't been scheduling for those two days in the event that I get scheduled with this firm then, but he still hasn't gotten back to me. Should I try again, or just go ahead and schedule interviews then, or still leave them open? I would really like to interview somewhere on those days.
