I get that they're busy because the economy/M&A is doing well, but should people be concerned that those groups will be downsized when the economy goes south?

Of course they should. However, your biglaw time horizon is 3 years max, and even when they do downsize, they only fire the bottom 25% or so.

So do you want to get your foot in the door at Latham or Skadden or etc etc with a damn good chance to be an average lawyer in your class, which means they'll let you stay for 5 years, you pay off all your debt, and you can exit to a host of interesting opportunities. Or do you want to be at a shittier firm IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION BECAUSE EVERYONE DOWNSIZES IN A DOWN ECONOMY.

Just had last interview. Partner says can only give me "alternate" offer and hands me a letter for $80K starting? Don't understand. Bait and switch?

The economy going south would have neglibile impact on certain sectors of M&A, and perhaps even speed it up. Health care systems are merging like motherfuckers right now as a result of the ACA.

Sounds like it might be a staff attorney/non-partnership associate offer

ETA: That's pretty shitty of the firm to do

Sounds like shady shitlaw shenanigans rather than a cold offer.

Well, the person posting about the "alternate" offer is the same person who posted earlier as two separate people being no-offered, so I don't know how much stock to put in it.

Is it even a rising 3L? I don't know if this person deserves my sympathy or my vitriol, but leaning toward the latter at this point.

Why aren't they banned yet? It's kind of ridiculous to let them keep doing that ITT.
