Not surprised to hear that, recruiting must have been talking about 3L OCI/3Ls sending their resume generally as opposed to a targeted group.

M&A and leveraged lending are looking for bodies at every damn firm in NYC. 3Ls should mass mail indicating an interest in those groups.
