Re: Penn OCI
Maybe you guys can post the names of firms you're waiting to hear from; that way people with CBs at those firms who are not keen on them can cancel and open up spots for you. It's a long shot but I'm thinking of what your classmates can do to help. Good luck--it'll work out.

In terms of those of us without callbacks (and what other Penn students can do) - I think it's pretty obvious from talking with others that most of us are focused on the smaller regional markets. That being said, if there is a lower tier firm that you know you wouldn't even consider, there are people who would be thrilled to get a callback from those places. Please think of this - if not, sincerely, good luck in your interviews!!!!

Re: Penn OCI
I think it's always safe to assume that someone out there would be happy to take a CB in your place if you don't want it. So, listing the firms we haven't heard from won't really make a person who is otherwise unwilling to give up a CB suddenly decide to do so. Just my opinion.Anonymous User wrote:Maybe you guys can post the names of firms you're waiting to hear from; that way people with CBs at those firms who are not keen on them can cancel and open up spots for you. If you don't want a CB, don't take it. If a firm isn't high on your list but you have a CB and want to keep it anyway, then keep the CB. It shouldn't matter if you have confirmation on this forum that there are people waiting to take your place, or even people who want the firm more than you do -- you can assume that is always the case, and make the decision that is best for you just as you would if no one responds to this with an actual list.
Also, keep in mind that we have only heard from a small portion of all the firms that showed up at OCI. The fast response time with some of these firms is making people nervous, but there are so many that still haven't said anything. Someone with 20 firms that respond quickly will have 20 responses by now. If you have 20 firms that take a long time, then you may not have any responses yet. And if one of your firms has responded to some people already, there is always a chance you're on a wait list (in fact, if wait lists don't exist, then the initial suggestion of canceling CBs to give others a chance is moot anyway). It's far too early to panic. What you see on this forum, the reports of CBs and dings, are such a small portion of all the responses we are gonna get (a couple hundred firms x 20-60 or more interviews each = a ton of communication still waiting to happen). OCI just ended. Give it some time to unfold and don't get freaked out because someone else's experience has been different than yours. Firms aren't identical to one another and they don't all operate the same way.
As someone who only has 1 CB, and up until 24 hours ago had 0, I understand the fears. But take solace in the very small number of 3Ls that had to do OCI, as well as the fact that we are all brilliant and amazing. Everyone will find the right place for them eventually, even if the process is not unfolding in the same way for everyone.
