Skadden just lumped in the year-end bonus with the earlier special bonus (which they still haven't paid), giving the illusion of an eye-popping raise to DPW but it is actually just matching DPW. Don't get excited when you see the Skadden amounts, folks.
Ah crud. That's a lame move, Eric Friedman

If nothing else, can someone just make the scale make sense / be easily memorable again?

Aesthetics matter, people. Give us 20+5; 30+10; 60+15; 75+20; 90+25; 105+30; and 115+35.

Moving in chunks of less than 5K is very TTT, very non-white shoe.

Without anything to support this, they guesttimated their Q4 revenue/RPL, spitballed where they'd like their PPEP to end up and worked the bonus beat backwards from that, that's why the figures are in odd increments.

Milbank match DPW scale (bonus plus "one time bonus").

It's over folks.

KE folks, how much does it boost your bonus if you get a 1 or 2 versus just having high hours?

I heard Skadden matched but included the portion of the fall bonus they have not paid yet in the second column?

Seems like in general the 1/2 is just a marginal bump; the real big multipliers come with massive hours. Some takes in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=260836

Also, basically no one gets a 1/2 until you are a 5th year. And even then only future share partners get the highest rating.

A not-insignificant number of 4th years get 2s.

Must be group dependent. We are told in my group that everyone will get a 3 (or worse).

The bonus compression at KE is real. In some ways the smartest move is to just put in your 2,000 hours and get around a 1.25x over market each year versus going balls to the wall at 2,8000 hours and bumping that multiplier up to 1.6x or whatever.

This is at the tail end of the curve but I know a well-regarded senior (had to have gotten a 1) with high hours who got well over 2x last year. The two tend to go hand in hand but I think the merit trumped the hours, the person has unique value to their group.

This is an aesthetic list. But it's also a tease.

STB should just confirm it will match the rest. This can't keep going on. DPW deserves the firm of the year award and people really need to stop calling it the Cravath scale. If we stopped where Cravath did, some of us would not be getting up to $23,000 more.

Edit: A closing thought. Kind of fucked up 2021 does not get a special bonus. At the very least, 2021s in corporate have been slammed.

They literally just took the cravath scale and did 1.2x at each year.

STB just announced special one-time bonuses for non-stubs in addition to the year-end Cravath scale.

2021 - n/a
2020 - $4,000
2019 - 6,000
2018 - 11,500
2017 - 15,000
2016 - 18,000
2015 - 21,000
2014 - 23,000
2013 - 23,000
Strange way to phrase it. You mean STB matched the DPW scale...

Yeah, we are done. Not a terrible outcome, in my view.

One key takeaway is that "Cravath scale" should be banished from the lexicon. Cravath is no longer a comp leader, just a meek frontrunner.

Willkie just made another announcement…

That 5 lawyers are being promoted to counsel in the U.S.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
