These positions are really tough to land, so I don't think the lack of offers is necessarily an indication of poor interviewing performance. That's not to say that you're not a horrible interviewer :D, but this process is not a good way to gauge that.

Probably depends what you mean by lots, but why don't you go do a mock interview w/ career services to see if you're interviewing well?

Thank yous are always and forever a nay, doesn't matter the circumstances
I have a different viewpoint - they're an opportunity to be memorable (also could be an opportunity to screw up, so you want to be careful with them). I send them every time and have some pretty good offers lined up for this summer. Often the person I send them to will write something back...especially if I add something specific to our conversation.

I agree. I had substantial work experience before law school, and thank-you emails were very much expected. They will not really help you, but the failure to send one could harm you if the interviewer is old school. To me it's a no brainer.

You guys are welcome to have your own, wrong opinions.

Seriously though, it's not a debate worth having, TLS does this like every 2 months.

I've never heard of anyone getting a job for writing a good one or dinged for not writing one. I have, however, heard grumblings when someone has a typo or something. Given that in many ways this process is all about finding reasons to ding people because every candidate is basically the same, I don't think it's worth doing something that has no upside and potentially a lot of downside. Also, anecdotally it didn't matter for me and I'm in a genteel ass market with genteel ass legal hirers.

But politeness, it's expected, etc. Go for it guys, you only live once, you don't want to have any regrets for not sending a thank you note so knock yourself out.

i sent thank you notes to screeners who invited me to cbs
wasn't doing it to get an edge, it just seemed weird not to
but thanking a screener before getting the nod, idk that seems odd
it doesn't seem genuine to me to thank someone for the great experience of having a run-of-the-mill 20 min interview, unless you really connected w/ them

I'm at CCN, and have had callbacks at six firms. I've had invitations at four more, but I withdrew all my applications once I received offers from my top two choices.

I think that Checkers is right.

I have a friend who has a theory that the reason they do a lot of callbacks is to increase advertising for their firm. IF you think about it, it makes sense. You go in, get really excited, tell your friends about it, and then you do whatever you can to work there in 2L b/c you know that it's a good fit.

Some of these places will also let you bypass OCI; they give you a CB for the fall. I'm sure that it's nice to fill up a few interview spots without having to go through the school's formal process.
