CW backed up by data says you can expect to convert about a third of your interviews to callbacks, and half of your callbacks to offers. Obviously varies a ton by firm; at S&C a callback is basically an offer, whereas at Chadbourne it doesn't mean much at all.Anonymous User wrote:I know people have mentioned total cbs, but what about a ratio? I know some people with 39 interviews and others with less than half that, so it'd be nice to get a sense of proportion. Is 1/3 what we should be shooting for?

DPW MH via email. I like the calls. Email feels impersonal. Guess I can't complain.

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
I think it really depends on the proportion of bids that you allocated to reach/safety firms. I know some people who bid very conservatively and a have a lot of interviews (though a few people with whom I have spoken who used this strategy got a lot of CBs that they don't really want) and also some people who were more aggressive and got less CBs, but are more interested in the firms that they got. I feel that on average, for people with a mix of reach/safety firms who are average interviewers, 1/3 sounds reasonable (though I have zero evidence to back this up).Anonymous User wrote:I know people have mentioned total cbs, but what about a ratio? I personally got CBs at 75% of the firms that I interviewed with, though I think I got lucky with the interviewers that I ended up getting. (Also, I just want to note that I am not trying to brag. I think that I got the right mix of firms and was lucky in that most of my interviewers practice in the area that I want to pursue after graduation and in which I have some work experience. I only mention my results to provide some data so that this discussion isn't just speculation).

Yup. I think everyone got them by email at the same time? So if you didn't get it, no CB?Anonymous User wrote:Email?Anonymous User wrote:DPW TR cb

I was going to ask how people felt about this. A callback is a callback I suppose, but email seems very cold. We do all our callbacks by phone call - it's more work, but in my view it's nice to have the personal connection.Anonymous User wrote:DPW MH via email. I like the calls. Email feels impersonal. Re: Columbia EIP 2014
Mono's math is spot on in the aggregate- you're looking at ~9000 screeners yielding ~3000 callbacks, ~2000 of those callbacks will be taken resulting in about a thousand offers.
A thousand offers sounds like a lot, but once you realize the average is only three per person (and some people will have many more offer than three) you see how people do strike out. For that reason, I don't think the averages are all that instructive. It's also why luck can skew results dramatically.

man it's all about grades, even for safety. Messed up 1L year. Great conversations with interviewers. 6 dings including my top two interview performance, 0 cbs. Great.

I think I'm in a weird spot. 3 callbacks from firms that are a reach for my grades (think 3.4x at cravath), and no cbs but several rejections from "safety" firms or even firms solidly in my grade range. I feel like I'm in a strike out/strike gold situation.

Re: Columbia EIP 2014
Cravath offers like 2/3 of people they callback, so you're not in a bad spot. Do your research and give it your best. Your grades really aren't an issue if they gave you a callback.Anonymous User wrote:I think I'm in a weird spot. 3 callbacks from firms that are a reach for my grades (think 3.4x at cravath), and no cbs but several rejections from "safety" firms or even firms solidly in my grade range. It's definitely a crapshoot. With some of the lower-ranked firms, the ones I got CBs from I had to really sell a specific interest in the firm itself or some of its work.Anonymous User wrote:I think I'm in a weird spot. 3 callbacks from firms that are a reach for my grades (think 3.4x at cravath), and no cbs but several rejections from "safety" firms or even firms solidly in my grade range.
