Yeah... just waiting for that ding.
Interviewed with all the "selective" NYC firms (v5) and never once ran into this kind of issue. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that - bad luck on the draw, I guess.

It is surprising how small our alumni network is at top nyc firms though . . . and I wonder if the lack of alumni support at each firm makes a material difference (does having more NU alum around at KE Chicago have a ton of benefits for a NU-alum 1st year that a NU-alum 1st year at Skadden NYC won't have??).
Curious about this too. K&E NYC handed out their SA list from last year. No NU students...

That's weird. I met with like 4 (recent) Fordham grads while there... I didn't get the impression that the firm was particularly prestige conscious.

So, I had a Sidley NY CB two weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything. I did apply to the diversity scholarship, the deadline closes today. Do you think they were waiting to let me know because of that? Surely snail mail would have reached me by now...

my offer---> CB ratio is 25%. NYC. No journal. Above median. I wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong... I would strongly prefer to not go where I have my offer right now...

I'm 0-3 (almost assuredly going to be 0-4 soon) on Chicago CBs. I have never thought of myself as awkward and had a pretty high screener conversion rate. Not sure either what's held me back. All I can say is that once you've honestly evaluated your performance for real problems, stop thinking about it and just keep going in like it's your first CB. You'll go crazy dwelling on it. The only thing that I've changed (I think it's helped) is lying a lot more aggressively about geographical preferences. I was going with something like, "well i really am only applying to "x" market but i sent a few resumes to "y" just to be safe but now I'm straight up denying applying to more than one city. It seems to be helping but I dont have tangible results to prove it yet.

Yeah... just waiting for that ding.
"Well, coming from a school that has actual grades and where people mostly take courses on the actual law instead of silly academic theories..."

Can't get over how gross that question is. Assuming you have another offer, I don't how that callback wouldn't have turned you off of that firm.

Not a northwestern student but wow what a douche bag. I guess he feels superior because he got 3 extra educated guesses correct on the LSAT

IMO, callback to offer conversions hinge almost entirely on showing a genuine interest in the firm. Just try to gauge what all their marketing materials is hitting at and then act as if everything you want in a law firm is just those marketing points.

If your answer to "what are you looking for in a law firm" does not absolutely highlight the strengths of the firm you're interviewing for then you're not trying hard enough. Also don't try to pigeonhole yourself right away into a niche practice area that the firm may not have much space for (e.g., going gung-ho on FCPA even though there's only one partner in the office that really does FCPA).

Also don't come across as slimey and insincere even though this whole process is slimey and insincere.

I'm sorry to hear that this was your experience at Skadden. I did not get that reception at Skadden or any other NYC V5.

Out the associate...

I think Skadden has a pretty terrible reputation at NU, not that this really explains poor representation. It doesn't help though when douchebag associates reinforce that rep.

Eta: if I ended up with a ding, id consider emailing their HR about this BS.

Re: Skadden NY - that's quite obnoxious.

With that said, Skadden Boston couldn't have been more polite/gracious in all stages of the process (so results may vary in their satellite offices).

Withdrew post-CB. This is more for posterity's sake for next year's NU OCI, but feel free to PM me about experience with Boston market.
