It's a professional social networking site. Basically, you put up your resume and connect to professional contacts as well as friends.

I like it for a couple reasons. It lets me know when friends from college or high school who I don't speak with that often change jobs, get promotions, go to grad schools -- and then I can congratulate them and I'm not out of the loop. I also really like it because you can see how former coworkers framed the description of a job that you previously held, it's useful as inspiration when I rewrite my resume.

I have one. It's basically your resume on a website. It's pretty worthless, but somehow adults think it is the paragon of social networking

So I just got surprise interviewed on the phone. I had missed a call from a government org, returned it and left a message. Woman calls me back and I figure it's just setting up an interview time. Nope. She launches into a phone interview.

less than 10 minutes. I didn't realize it was an interview until about halfway through, but they went through "why are you interested in government?", "what was your favorite course last semester?"

And then she was like, "Well I have a few more candidates to talk to and we have to figure out what we're doing here. We'll get back to you in a couple weeks."

A weird experience for sure.

I've seen at least one law internship that requires you to have and provide your linkedin. It was for a venture capital firm or something I think, so after I looked up my chances of obtaining the internship I promptly exited the application.

So, I sent out my letters yesterday and today. It is not actually possible for them to have arrived yet. I still really want my phone to ring.

Please hire me, judges?

I have an interview with a firm in my home market tomorrow. How would you classify this firm? They're under 20 attorneys, only do corporate/transaction work and pay 20k above local market for starting associates.

I have a question. I had only 2 half-year courses, and got 2 A- on my transcript. I did get mid-term grades for my other 3 courses, and they are top 5% for civ pro (A), B+ for Contracts, and top 1/3 for LRW. Should I also send them my midterm scores? Will it hurt or help me? I'm just worried about the LRW - I think top 1/3 would be B+, but close to the cusp of A-.

I am applying to firms mostly through diversity programs.

Strange? Corporate/transactional boutiques are pretty rare to my knowledge. There are a decent number of small litigation and patent boutiques that pay market or above market, but i've actually never heard of a corporate firm run on that model.

What kind of transactions do they do?

They do M&A, IPO, PE, securities compliance and some real estate.

I was thinking it was a corporate boutique but I had never actually heard that term before.

Thanks! Glad it's over, this semester is definitely proving more stressful than the last and having one less thing to worry about is nice.

To those of you still waiting on responses from judges, are you only sending law school transcripts to those that request them?

Sent out an email yesterday afternoon, offer today 8)

Idk if it is really my top choice though but it is in a cheap area. Should I call places and let them know about the offer?

Careful. I let a firm know that I had an offer and asked, JUST ASKED, if it were possible to get a decision before I have to accept or decline.

They responded that they couldn't, so good luck and thanks for interviewing.

I didn't say I wanted to withdraw myself. :|

Yeah, it was a little surprising, and seeing as I'm not even sure I'm going to take this job offer, I regret saying anything. I didn't think that just asking for a possible faster decision would be a deal breaker.

Damn maybe I won't say anything then. It is just that my top choices were clear that it's be March before decisions are made.

The email literally ended with the phrase, "...and I will be sure to let you know if I need to withdraw myself from consideration." :(

But hopefully I'll be able to find a job I really want anyway.

Literally just sent in all my apps to firms (45 total, all in major markets) yesterday and today. Grades are all A's at CCN, but is it too late at most firms? Dug through this thread a little bit but it's long, and I don't see much on point.

EDIT: I know the obvious answer is to talk to Career Services, but the woman I talked to had pretty rose-colored glasses about everything and I want to know if her optimism was misguided.

Probably not too late to generate a little bit of interest. I still haven't heard back from 90% of the firms I applied to, but I did get a grade request the other day. It seems like a lot of firms (but not all) waited until grades were released from area schools before they started moving or finalized anything.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
