These are DRAMATICALLY different cultures, so it's best to do your homework before making the decision. Talk with alums @ each firm about the culture, and try to figure out where you fit best. This should NOT be a close call- I have never met anyone who would fit at ropes AND kirkland.

how are the cultures different? i liked everyone i met at both firms...i'm not really sure what i should be looking at that makes them so different.

how are the cultures different? i liked everyone i met at both firms...i'm not really sure what i should be looking at that makes them so different.

He means the work environment. Kirkland is known to be very intense, sweatshop-like and Ropes is more about work/life balance and is one of the more "lifestyle" firms.

I still haven't heard from firms after the screening interview at Loyola. It's been over a month....

It seems to me like not everyone sends out dings after screeners.

Yeah. I've lurked other (higher ranked) schools and found that some of the firms I screened with at Loyola have already sent out callbacks, dings, and offers to their students all while I was waiting around and hoping they were just running slowly with their hiring process. I'm honestly a bit miffed they didn't bother to even send out a ding letter or email to me.

Finally......after talking to ppl there, I'm ditching Kirkland for Paul Hastings. Like someone above said, Kirkland has a high octane atmosphere, something I can hack for a year or so, but don't want to have that kind of lifestyle, despite a bit more $$$.
Good luck to you guys on the Kirkland waiting list.
