Everyone in my class pretty much got glowing reviews that lasted maybe 5 minutes long.

Real talk though: what kind of mid-summer review comments would be really bad? I've heard a few people at my firm get some negative reviews but a lot of them sounded like one-off issues.

I agree with some of the posters above who said that it is different at different offices. Some firms seem to give glowing 5 minute reviews while others give everyone things to work on.Anonymous User wrote:Real talk though: what kind of mid-summer review comments would be really bad? Don't stress out too much, I had a complaint about the font I used on an assignment when I used the same as the sample I was given etc. Some people just can't be positive.

The form associates fill out, at least at my firm, emphasizes like 3x that constructive feedback is preferred so some people take that to heart (even though most don't). You'd know if it were an actual bad review.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
I love the paranoia that surrounds SA.
Mid-summer review, no one is trying to hide the ball. You will know if you're work is bad or they don't like you. There is no reason to hide the ball because the firm wants you to succeed and be hired. So if there is a red flag, you would know about it. So stop being so paranoid and enjoy the second half of your summer.
A more interesting topic: what was the most useless or ridiculous review you received? When I was a SA, one associate wrote a negative review (not about my work) but claiming that I was "too formal." Their gripe, I addressed my first email to that person using their last name (e.g, "Dear Mr. X") Apparently, that was a no-no or too formal. Then, during my review, the firm had to "explain" to me that I should know by now that they run an informal office. I had to control myself not to burst out laughing. Great advice!

What is an actual "you should start applying elsewhere" bad review though? Almost all these reviews are couched in nice terms that I don't see what it would take for them to get out and say that they don't like you. It also makes it so that anything remotely negative stands out immediately.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
Haha You know it! The "X" wasn't the problem... the "Mr." crossed the line. And it is a serious enough offense to bring up in a mid-summer review. I had to work extra hard the second half of the summer to make sure I got an offer. I was one of the lucky ones.BizBro wrote:LOL you called an associate Mr.X in an email?Anonymous User wrote:I love the paranoia that surrounds SA.

There was a slap, and maybe a flashing? Didn't some other drama happen? It's been a few weeks since anything of note happened but I doubt we're the most boring class.

unless you got a substantial scholarship, you are significantly more debt fucked than your fairly recent predecessors, so the higher comp is a wash at bestGlasseyes wrote:Collectively dumber, generally uninteresting, still better paid than our predecessors = 2016 pridebarkschool wrote:Class of 2016 SA shaping up to be the most boring on record.

a slap is good but not compared to last year's coke-fueled cockslapping of latham partners by a Saudi prince (or whatever)
edit: i mean shit, nobody's even got a good walleye story.
