There's a strong probability that I might end up at a PI office this summer that has their 1Ls appear in administrative hearings.

How confrontational can administrative hearings get?
Also what kind of signal would this type of work send to firms come OCI?
I'm currently interested in doing corp work if I get a big law position.
I'm also debating on whether or not to pass up the offer and keep applying to in-house gigs.

It would signal nothing to firms come OCI. If anything, if the position is super niche/interesting, it could help you with maintaining conversations with screeners.

I did a family court internship 1L summer. All litigation, in court all the time, saw a bunch of custody hearings and stuff.

Corporate work at a V10 2L summer. What I did 1L summer wasn't a hindrance for targeting corporate work at OCI. I don't think employers care what you do as long as it's legal experience.

Anyone know anything about the Dept. of the Interior legal externship/internship? Have a phone interview scheduled...curious to see if anyone has any info on how many people they interview, what kind of questions to expect, the value of an internship there, etc.

How do you answer questions relating to this type of thing (1L summer job that is Lit oriented but strong preference for Corporate)?

Always had a strong preference for corp but wanted to try lit. That experience confirmed that I want corp.

Or, wasn't quite sure, tried out lit and didn't like it. I do think I'll like corp because of X, Y, Z

It wasn't a big deal, most didn't press me on it.

1Ls seem to think that what you do 1L summer really matters but it really doesn't (when it comes to firms). At least it my experience.

I would try to avoid things that might be polarizing or non-legal. But if you have some random PI/gov internship that's fine, it won't preclude you from anything.

Has anyone had any luck with SoCal firms? I have pretty solid grades and I've only received dings or no response.

Non-URM, Non-IP degree, USC
