I was thinking of lobster rolls for today's game, seeing as I'm on the Milbank scale.

Law student here. Are you guys (associates) enjoying the superbowl? Do you have time to watch it uninterrupted or without thinking about work? Just trying to figure out if biglaw is really a you're working every minute of the week, even on the weekends type of thing.

How long do you otherwise have to respond in a typical situation? lolAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:46 pmI got an email from a Partner but was told I can respond after the game.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:09 pmLaw student here. It’s for a deal closing…we hope…tomorrow. So with no Super Bowl…Partner would probably want a response in an hour…or at least an acknowledgment of such email if I couldn’t respond.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:54 pmHow long do you otherwise have to respond in a typical situation? lolAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:46 pmI got an email from a Partner but was told I can respond after the game.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:09 pmLaw student here. I worked this morning/early afternoon and logged off before the game. I have received a few emails, but nothing that requires an immediate response.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:09 pmLaw student here. Are you guys (associates) enjoying the superbowl? On a typical weekend, I will work at least 4–5 hours over both days (or I’ll do nothing on Saturday and catch up on Sunday if I have the option). Sometimes you’ll have something blow up and Saturday and Sunday might as well be weekdays. Those weekends aren’t that common, but they do happen.

DPW is out here cleverly waiting for Russia to invade Ukraine so it has geopolitical instability as an excuse to not re-raise.

Unfortunately I worked with it on in the background for about half of the game (and watched the other half of the game), but this is the first weekend I’ve worked more than an hour or two since mid-December. Just bad timing.
FWIW, I usually work fairly late Friday night and get started at like 6 am Monday morning to protect my Saturday and Sunday as much as possible.

There's a partner I work for who likes to joke on Fridays that it's "only two more workdays until Monday." It's in a very friendly, we-all-hate-this-crap sort of way. But I guess he didn't hate it enough because he made it his entire life. I do hate it so I'm trying to quit biglawAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:09 pmLaw student here. As a law student though, that's not a reason to avoid biglaw. Being a junior associate is a fantastic gig for the outrageous pay, and if you can't stand it after 2-4 years, you just go get a different job.

It really depends on how comfortable you are at setting boundaries and time management. You may not be able to drink while watching the game if you have to work that day, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to set aside a few hours on a Sunday to spend with family and friends - you may have to make up that time before / after the game but it’s doable. In my experience, most big law attorneys, especially juniors, are not great at time management or setting appropriate boundaries. Now if you have a deadline during the game or right after the game, that’s another issue but you can’t do too much about that.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 9:31 amThere's a partner I work for who likes to joke on Fridays that it's "only two more workdays until Monday." Today is the day that DPW allows my firm to become one of the handful of compensation leaders, paying me $20k more than my counterparts at DPW, Cravath, STB, S&C, etc.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 11:06 amTODAY IS THE . . . who am I kidding, they’ve broken our spirits![]()

We are so deep into unprecedented territory at this point that I'm not even sure what to think anymore. If this deafening silence from firms reaffirms anything, it's that partners could not care less about associate comp and will do anything in their power to avoid paying even a smidgeon more than they need to.

My Milbank-matching check hit today. Can't believe I make more than V10 associates all because of DPW.

They were just waiting until Valentines Day to show their love to us. We’ll hear by the end of today and probably everyone will be sent 100 roses for waiting.

Everyone bragging about getting paid higher than top firms right now are going to be pretty upset if there is a re-raise and their firm doesn’t re-match

The irony of suggesting firms that have matched won't match while being at a firm that hasn't matched.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 12:00 pmEveryone bragging about getting paid higher than top firms right now are going to be pretty upset if there is a re-raise and their firm doesn’t re-match
